The legendary guitarist, Joe Satriani, has announced his 16th solo album titled, “What Happens Next“.
What Happens Next was recorded at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California with a remarkable power trio: Satriani on guitar, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple/Black Country Communion) on bass and drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), the latter reuniting with Satriani for the first time since their work in the supergroup Chickenfoot.
For the album, Satriani was once again joined by producer/engineer/mixer Mike Fraser, his frequent collaborator over the last 20 years. What Happens Next is set for a January 12th, 2018 release.

Black Country Communion the Anglo-American rock group comprising vocalist/bassist Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Trapeze), drummer Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin, Foreigner), Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Alice Cooper, Billy Idol) and blues-rock guitarist/vocalist Joe Bonamassa, release their long awaited and highly anticipated fourth album, BCC IV, via J&R Adventures on Friday, September 22nd, 2017. This is the band’s first studio album since 2013’s Afterglow.
Just like its three predecessors, BCC IV was overseen by Kevin Shirley, whose catalogue of hit records for Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, Journey, The Black Crowes, has made him the hottest producer that rock music has to offer. Shirley, who originally had the idea of putting Hughes and Bonamassa in a band after seeing them jamming together onstage in Los Angeles back in November 2009 – is the group’s unofficial ‘fifth member’.
Black Country Communion have also announced two UK shows to support the album. They’ll perform at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall on January 2nd, 2018 and at the London Hammersmith Apollo on January 4th, 2018. In addition, one USA date is currently scheduled for February 26th, 2018 at the Blues Alive at Sea IV event sailing from Miami, Florida.
Black Country Communion is an earth-shattering combination of American and British rock influences—a bona fide super group that conveys to the world a simple but important message: classic rock is alive and well and in good hands in the 21st century. Their communion together forms something that is greater than the sum of its parts, creating a legacy being cemented within the halls of music history.
The initiative for the new album came from Joe Bonamassa, who contacted the band in 2016 to see if they would be up for going back into the studio to write and record a fourth album. Says Joe, “I just felt the time was right for Black Country Communion to go back into the studio and write and record a new album. When I contacted Glenn, Derek and Jason, they immediately agreed to give it shot. The timing was right.”
During October 2016, when news first broke about the band getting back together, things on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, started blowing up and fan reaction was overwhelming. It was clear to see that BCC fans were hungry for another album. Since then, BCC IV is destined to become one of the he biggest hard rock albums of 2017.
Black Country Communion’s inception took place when front man and bass guitarist Glenn Hughes and Joe Bonamassa fused their styles on stage in Los Angeles in November 2009 for an explosive performance at Guitar Center’s King of the Blues event. With the help and guidance of producer Kevin Shirley, they further added to their rock lineage by recruiting drummer Jason Bonham and keyboardist Derek Sherinian. Taking their name from the industrial area in Britain, and the birthplace of both Hughes and Bonham, Black Country Communion released their self-titled debut album in 2010, and with that, unleashed their brand of take-no-prisoners hard rock to a world thirsting for music with substance.
Following the release of another two studio albums, 2011’s well-received Black Country Communion 2 and 2012’s equally impressive Afterglow, plus a smoldering live CD released in 2011, Live Over Europe, the band has firmly established themselves as one of hard rock’s premier acts. The band took a hiatus in 2013 and focused on their successful solo careers.
BCC has cultivated a reputation not only as amazing songwriters, but as a powerful live act, is only exceeded by their dedication to their craft, and a willingness to challenge and motivate each other to make the best music they can.
When BCC’s self-titled debut album was originally released in September 2010, Classic Rock described it as “Possibly the best hard rock album of 2010,” while MOJO awarded it 4 stars. Music Radar hailed the disc as “a potent and stomping collection of riff-heavy rockers that will undoubtedly stun listeners.”
During its first week of release in the UK, BCC’s debut album hit the #1 spot in the Official Top 40 Rock Album Chart. It was voted #3 in Classic Rock’s “Critics Album of the Year” poll, and listeners of Planet Rock crowned BCC as the Best New Band of 2010. In the States, former VH1 Classic TV show “That Metal Show” dubbed BCC as the “Best New Rock Band of the last 10 Years.”
Issued a mere nine months later, in time for a well received slot at the High Voltage Festival in London, Black Country Communion 2 was darker and deeper than its predecessor. Once again it topped the UK’s Rock Album Chart. The band were also the recipients of the Best Breakthrough Act award at Classic Rock’s prestigious Roll Of Honour Awards. Acknowledging that more than a single listen was required to fully appreciate its “depth and artistry”, the same magazine rightly called ‘BCC2’ “one stone-solid classic song after another.”
Now, seven years on from its inception, Bonamassa feels the time is right to bring the original BCC line-up back for album #4. There’s even talk of some exclusive live shows (to be announced in the coming weeks).
“We had around 4 months to write this album, and I think the results speak for themselves,” comments Glenn Hughes. “All four of us wanted to make a record that stood up to the first three albums, however, the new album is more of a progression, as we wanted to be careful not to repeat the previous albums. A lot has happened since we last recorded the Afterglow album in 2013, so, in many ways, the new album shows BCC with a much harder, riffier and bigger and bolder sound. If you’re looking for a folk album, this ain’t the one.”
The band assembled to record ‘BCC IV‘ at Cave Studios in Los Angeles in January 2017. The album was mixed at Cave Studios in Sydney in March. The songs on BCC IV will appeal to all fans of high quality hard rock, also those that admire singers of distinction. Hughes is not known as The Voice of Rock for nothing.
In terms of content, ‘BCC IV‘ expands upon the progression that took place between the first three albums. With an abundance of heavy riffs, undeniable hooks, melodic flair and infectious choruses, ‘BCC IV‘ is a spectacular album that gets bigger and bolder with repeated spins.
“I wanted the new album to physically shake your soul. It’s a wake-up call.” explains Hughes.
All songs on the new album were co-written by Glenn Hughes and Joe Bonamassa. Glenn wrote all the lyrics on the album except for the song ‘The Last Song For My Resting Place‘ which was written by Joe.

THE BAND
Glenn Hughes (vocals/bass)
Deep Purple took a quantum leap when 20-year-old Glenn Hughes was seconded from British funk-rock outfit Trapeze in 1973. As bassist and co-vocalist (with David Coverdale), he helped steer the rock institution in the progressive direction of Burn and Stormbringer while touring the world for three years. His solo debut of ’77, Play Me Out, preceded albums with Black Sabbath and Gary Moore. The last 25 years have seen a rush of solo work and collaborations for the ‘Voice of Rock’ including Black Country Communion with Joe Bonamassa and Jason Bonham, and high impact with the Music of Cream tour and his 2016 album, Resonate. Glenn was inducted into the Rock’n’ Roll Hall of Fame last year along with other Deep Purple members.
Jeff Kollman (guitars)
The hallowed name of guitar god Jeff Kollman has graced too many greatest player polls to count these last 30 years. The Ohio punk turned jazz-prog virtuoso has run rings around the world since his ’90s metal band Edwin Dare gave way to prog heroes Cosmosquad and a gun-slinging resume that spans Sebastian Bach to Alan Parsons; Chad Smith’s Bombastic Meatbats to UFO spin-off Mogg/Way. A classic guitarist’s guitarists, Jeff takes high praise from the likes of Steve Lukather in his estimable stride. On stage and record, he’s been a recurring foil for Glenn Hughes since the Songs In the Key of Rock LP of 2003.
Lachy Doley (keys)
Some call him the Jimi Hendrix of the Hammond organ. Glenn Hughes calls him “the greatest living keyboard player in the world.” Australian soul monster Lachy Doley is a killer showman too, pumping and pounding the most astonishing sounds from the classic B3 Hammond and his uber-rare Hohner D6 Whammy Clavinet. Lachy’s version of Bill Withers’ “Use Me” has clocked millions of YouTube hits and his latest album, Lovelight, has torched blues charts from Australia to the UK. Sideman to Powderfinger, Steve Vai, Jimmy Barnes and Joe Bonamassa, the world-touring keys prodigy cemented his place in Glenn’s band during sessions in Copenhagen for the Resonate LP.
Pontus Engborg (drums)
Hard-hitting funk-rock drummer Pontus Engborg barrelled out of Sweden to hit the LA session scene barely out of his teens in 2000. A fast and furious apprenticeship from the Viper Room to the Whiskey and the Knitting Factory would lead to stints with Joe Lynn Turner, Graham Bonnet, Toto’s Bobby Kimball and Journey’s Steve Augeri. Back in Sweden, he’s been the man behind the supremely versatile Confusion since 2007. It was there that he came to the attention of Glenn Hughes in 2010, and made his debut behind the Voice of Rock in Serbia that July, sans rehearsal or soundcheck, in front of 21,000 people. Seven years later, it’s fair to say he passed the audition.
CREAM, was a chemical explosion like no other, the blueprint for every supergroup to follow, featuring Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton.
Now in 2017, Glenn Hughes, the “Voice of Rock” and legendary bass player and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, will join The Music Of Cream 50th Anniversary Tour in Australia and New Zealand. The line-up features Malcolm Bruce (Jack’s son), Kofi Baker (Ginger’s son) and Will Johns (Eric’s nephew), alongside fellow special guest, Grammy-nominated guitarist Robben Ford.
The shows start in Melbourne, Australia, on May 23, wrapping up in Auckland on June 2, and celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Cream’s all-too-brief heyday via the bloodlines of Messrs Bruce, Clapton and Baker.

Glenn Hughes is the real deal – A true vocal and musical icon of our times.
In 2016, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame based in the USA, inducted Deep Purple’s Glenn Hughes. This was a culmination of a 40+ years career which saw Glenn leave his indelible mark in several musical endeavours and bands, including Trapeze, Deep Purple, Hughes/Thrall, his collaborations with Gary Moore, Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi and most recently with Black Country Communion and California Breed.
Singer, bassist, and songwriter Glenn Hughes is a living, breathing embodiment of British rock, and his is a compelling story. Starting out in the 60s with beat combo Finders Keepers, he formed acclaimed funk-rock band Trapeze, then joined Deep Purple at their commercial peak. Flying around the world in the band’s own jet, Hughes enthusiastically embraced the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle. He played on three Purple albums, including the classic Burn. When Deep Purple split up in 1976, Hughes embarked on a series of solo albums, collaborations, and even a brief, chaotic spell fronting Black Sabbath. Along the way he battled crack addiction and cocaine psychosis, before surviving a clean-up-or-die crisis and recovering to rebuild his solo career. In this special London event hosted by Nicky Horne, Hughes will recount his adventures and misadventures with honesty and humour, bringing us up to date with the reformation of rock supergroup Black Country Communion and his critically acclaimed new album Resonate.
Glenn Hughes is a true original whose music blends hard rock, soul, and funk.

GLENN HUGHES was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the Mark III line up of DEEP PURPLE. He spent key years of his career as the beloved bassist and vocalist of the group, recording on the classic albums: Burn, Stormbringer, and Come Taste The Band. Hughes and other members of DEEP PURPLE were in attendance to receive the honor. The ceremony was recorded for television and received it’s broadcast premiere via HBO in April 2016.
Vocalist/bass guitarist/songwriter GLENN HUGHES is a true original. No other rock musician has carved such a distinctive style blending the finest elements of hard rock, soul and funk. Stevie Wonder once called Hughes his favorite white singer. The first important band Hughes was a member of that achieved notable success was TRAPEZE. In 1973, Hughes joined DEEP PURPLE. The trailblazing hard-rock legends had just weathered the departure of vocalist Ian Gillan and bass guitarist Roger Glover, but guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, keyboardist Jon Lord and drummer Ian Paice continued with the addition of Hughes and David Coverdale. Since 1992, Hughes has toured extensively in Europe, Japan and South America in support of solo albums, but more recently has been involved with award winning supergroups’, BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION with guitar star Joe Bonamassa, keyboard player Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater) and drummer Jason Bonham, son of the late Led Zeppelin legend John Bonham and CALIFORNIA BREED, who also featured both Hughes and drummer Jason Bonham.
