This is a must listen album April 2, 2009 A. Bandujo (Fla & NJ) I was fortunate enough to see Trapeze back in 69-70 they were opening
for the Edgar Winter Group-their song Frankenstein hadn't been released
yet. My friends and I were left dumbfounded that 3 guys could get up on
stage & rock the outdoor arena-they totally blew away the EWG. We thought only someone like Cream or Jimi Hendrix could do that. They played everything on "YOU ARE THE MUSIC..WE'RE JUST THE BAND" this is a must have if your into Blues/Rock-I really think you will not be disappointed. I play this for my other friends & they always say who is that-& when I tell them they say who!! & they ask me if they are still together-well unfortunatley the answer is no. Please give a listen to the
hard punching Bass lines, the straight ahead rock drumming, and the pre- Van Halen guitar riffs & the diifferent styles the guitarist potrays here (no grunge) all the songs hold up pretty well. I've given a listen to the 1st album Medussa its ok and their 3rd album Trapeze sans Glenn Hughes (that was disappointing) and they just dont compare. My personal favorites are a slow rock blues-"What Is A Womans Role" and the "Keeping Time" and of course the title track. This a snapshot of what hard rock was really like in the early 70's unpretenious straight ahead rock tunes.
funky stuff March 12, 2009 B. E Jackson (Pennsylvania) Do you like your hard rock funky, heavy and bluesy? If so, THIS is the album for you, along with Deep Purple's Come Taste the Band. You will NOT hear heavy rock music like this anymore. Those days are over I'm afraid.
The rhythm section is so incredibly tight, the vocals absolutely *breathe* honest heart and soul, and it's just a great feeling to hear music like this because it doesn't happen very often.
Every so often you will even hear a country vibe in a few of the songs. This is just magnificent music. A MUST own album.
EXCELLENT CD! February 18, 2009 R. Hernandez (K.C., KANSAS) THIS CD IS A DEFINITE MUST HAVE FOR THE TRUE ROCKIST! HARD AND RAW!, W/ 2 EXCELLENT SLOW MELLOW ME DOWN TUNES GOOD FOR SLEEPY NY-NY!,(lot of meaning behind these two songs). Kinda, how they put 2 soft on, reminds me of Zeps 2 on III-IMMIGRANT(TANGERINE AND THAT'S THE WAY)!* TRAPEZE-COAST TO COAST AND WILL OUR LOVE END!(2)
Trapeze was no act but the real thing! September 16, 2008 Thin Timmy (New Orleans, La.) Trapeze featuring "the voice of rock" Glenn Hughes of
Deep Purple fame and Mel Galley from original Whitesnake
and Dave Holland from Judas Priest! What a trio! A big
Hughes/Coverdale fan I got into Hughes solo material. I
remember my brothers 8-track of this and the title track
was a favorite but never bought it. I had no idea who else
was in the band being big fans of them also. I just bought
this thinking it was "live" I guess from the cover but it's
still one of the greatest albums ever! This band was better
than the popular hard rock bands that were out at the time.
They sound like Humble Pie with funk but this album rocks
out. The songwriting is incredible. Mel Galley was such a
great player I see why Coverdale got him in Whitesnake. I
never knew Dave Holland could play like that! What a trio!
Hughes obviously is multi-talented as a singer and songwriter
and any rock or funk fan should get as much of his material
but start here. You are the music, we are the band is a classic.
could have beens. July 4, 2008 Kevin Spiers (Melbourne, Australia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
"You are the music we're just the band" is a ground breaking album, believe me, there was nothing like it in 1972. It predates the chilli peppers by 25 years. The first Trapeze album as a five piece had an aura of their mates "The Moody Blues" , the second album 'Medusa' [the first one as a three piece] they couldn't decide whether to be the new Free, or the next Black Sabbath. But with "you are the music" they were most definitely Trapeze, helped I think by the vastly underrated producer, Neil Slaven. One great album! I sometimes wonder what would have happened if Glen hadn't have joined Deep Purple - what would they have become. Their sound somewhat stolen a few years later by Wild Cherry and their hit 'play that funky music whiteboy'. This CD however, on the Lemon Records label was taken from vinyl. The sound being compressed and less superior to the London release of 1996. I hope there are plans for a re-release from the original master tapes similar to the upcoming Medusa album apparently from the original tapes. Kevin Spiers
