Glenn Rocks June 7, 2009 Mr P (CA) I lost this years ago in a car I drove . Been trying to get one but was not about to pay what most were listed at . .Some of these idiots on the Zon want a small fortune for this . Get Real , Morons ! Finally found it for about eight bucks plus shipping . Well worth it . Lots of different guitar players . " I Got a Right to Live " "You Don't Have to Save Me Anymore" " Shake the Ground " "Have You Read the Book " Glen's vocals are one of a kind . Maybe not for everyone . But he "is" the MAN . I play his stuff and related music( Pat Travers , Deep Purple ,MSG ) on my radio show "Mr P's R&R Riot" 7 to 9 PM Pacific every Wed night @ KSVY.ORG
Glenn Hughes the Rock Authority! October 31, 2008 Thin Timmy (New Orleans, La.) Glenn Hughes Blues Authority is another great Hughes album.
Not really a blues like Gary Moore more like Paul Rodgers
with a hard rocking sound & some funk thrown in a times. I
really think it's a great collection of songs. My favorites:
Boy can sing the blues- classic hard rock song with hook &
groove but it's Hughes vocals that really rock this song.
this should've been included on his anthology collection.
I'm the man - perfect for any of his other funk/rock songs
with a great groove but also rocks.
So much love to give- one of the greatest blues/rock songs
ever written. should've been a big hit for him. the haunting
melody & lead with great vocals again. brilliant song.
Right to live- this is more funky rock with a great bass line
& catch vocals. again could be any on Hughes album.
Any fan of Hughes or blues rock would love this. I do. GET IT!
This is a good Hughes CD November 29, 2007 John McMinn (paramus, nj United States) The Songwriter Rhythm GTR player kevin Ericson is on rhythm and the progressions in the solo sections of the songs really set things up for the players to really shine . This is a classic , more so than other G.H. CD's which don't rock out as much. The recording is really good ,too , it won't turn to mud at 100 Db's :)
It Ain't the Blues, but its Sure Rock & Roll July 21, 2006 JAMES MCCORMICK (cedar rapids, Iowa United States) 4 Stars = Classic
Glenn Hughes is known by millions as the bassist/vocalist in Deep Purple's MK III line up & to a much lesser extent Trapeze, but many don't know about Glenn Hughes as an solo artist with quite a few albums to his credit, many of them excellent.
Glenn has a phenomenal voice, truly one of the finest in rock, hell, the whole music world, as a matter of fact he has been dubbed "the voice" by many in the business. Glenn's vocals are drenched in soul & R & B, with an amazing range of growls, phrasing, vibrato & a perfect silken tone, which makes Glenn a versatile singer indeed, covering everything from soul & funk to heavy metal flawlessly. So one would expect his solo albums to follow suite, & they do. My fave would probably be the hard rocking set " Blues," which features the guitar & co-writing talent of Craig Erickson (Craig plays all rhythm guitar, but only plays lead on two songs).
"Blues" is an album that kicks hard & long with Glenn going back to his 70's roots. The name "Blues" is a little misleading, for this album grabs straight for the gut with a hard to heavy 70's vibe. The stand out cut here is "I'm the Man," a marriage made in rock & roll heaven of Glenn's wonderful voice & a killer rhythm section with hot guitars from Craig Erickson on rhythm & John Norum on lead. "I'm the Man" comes off like the best song ZZ Top never wrote on steroids & methamphetamine, a true monster if there ever was one, & the rest of the album not far behind.
"Blues" is well worth your time if you're looking for an album that rocks with authority for the most part, but if your looking for B.B. King, Albert Collins, or even SRV, you won't find it here.
Glenn Hughes Rocks! April 6, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is one of the finest recordings of Glenn Hughes' career. He's surrounded by some of the 80's best guitarists on this one. Standouts include "I'm The Man" with John Norum, (Europe/Don Dokken) "What Can I Do For Ya" with Richie Kotzen, "You Don't Have To Save Me" with Mark Kendall (Great White) & Warren DeMartini, (Ratt) and all the songs with Darren Householder & Craig Erickson. Erickson also plays all rhythm guitars. Top all that killer playing off with one of the best voices in rock, not to mention most other forms of music, and you've got a near perfect recording. Sorry Crue fans, but Mick Mars was NOT a good fit.
