Thumbs up Honor for Jon Lord

Number 120 Averil Road, Leicester, LE5 2DB. A 1930s-built three-bed semi-detached house, on a quiet suburban Leicester street just off the Colchester Road, writes Lee Marlow.

An utterly unremarkable house in every way... except one. This was the house where Jon lived.

Jon Douglas Lord – the finest keyboard player in rock music, the classical influence behind Deep Purple's grandest moments – was raised here.

Finally! The house in Leicester, where Jon Lord was raised and spent his childhood days, was awarded the "Blue Plaque".

Jon would have turned 74 on June 9.
