Icon34 Childline Rocks 2009 (O2, London)

What an amazing night !!!

Opening of the show with a good accoustic set from THE PRETTY THINGS.

After what, come on stage SONS OF ALBION (Logan Plant band), good things, Logan is the son of who you know ans is amazing with his band, Then URIAH HEEP very impressive.

After a break, Thunder come on stage for a very good show, I've never seen this band before : it's very good rock'n'roll

Then we have Hot legs : This is Spinal Tap, not good at all, why did they made them play after Uriah & Thunder ?

& now ladies ang Gentlemen Steve Balsamo songs Picture within & Child in Time ..... with Jon Lord, I haven't seen lord since 1993, strange choice for picture within (I don't like it very much), then I was very impressed by the child in time hammond keys & Balsamo voice (perhaps better than Gillan ).

Then Glenn Hughes come on stage & call Jon Lord for a You Keep On Moving ( ) : Glenn & Jon with Anders Olinder & the guitar player from Thunder. Amazing set Glenn is OK & great. Then Glenn plays Mistreated & Soul Mover (without Lord, but with Anders) the Soul Mover was a duet version with the singer from Thunder.

Afterwhat Thunder come back on stage with the singer from Hot Legs : I don't undersatnd why : a little boring.

Then an accoustic set from Steve Harley : good thing but strange to have an acoustic set now after the Glenn set !!!

& an ending with Smoke on the Waters with everybody on stage.

Thank you Glenn for this evening

OK, enough with the polite charm.

Does Justin Hawkins want to be funny there (Hot Leg, huh?), or is he really hurt?

Did Bernie Shaw and Glenn sing together at all or only on SOTW ?
WOuld have loved hearing those two, who just happen to be far and away my favorite vocalists, together.

He bust his leg the night before apparently!

Here's a slightly more complete version of 'SOTW' from the other night...

Thanks a lot David
As I can see,Glenn is the only singer
who's singing is Brilliant
Sorry if somebody is not agree with me,
but that's what I can see and hear.
That's why for me Glenn always is and will be
the only voice of rock
No matter what happens
his voice is always in perfect condition
Lots of Love and Respect.

a great review over at DeepPurple.net

Quote:
Glenn Hughes was next on stage, and as he did at the same event the year before, he wiped the floor with every other vocalist there...

OK, add my name to the list with you other YKOM fans.
Glenn has written an awful lot of spectacular music in the years
since he and 'ole Dave wrote this snappy tune.
BUT.........
There is nothing, to me, like "You Keep On Moving."

Never get tired of listening to it; and I will be eternally grateful
to whoever it was, who invented the "repeat button" on a CD player.
There have been times when I've had that song playing for hours.
As mentioned above....I never get tired of listening to "You Keep On Moving."
How many "versions" of YKOM has Glenn sung over the years?
A gazillion? I love them all.

And the best part of this version?
At the 30-second mark, Glenn looks and smiles at the mighty Mr. Lord.

If a "look" ever meant ~
"Who woulda' thunk it?......33 years after the last time......in 1976?"
~ that look from Glenn, was it.

And Glenn's encouraging comment later on....."Here we go, Johnny."

I would pay a million dollars (if I had a million dollars) to have heard
the conversation between these 2 guys before and after this performance.
I hope that there will be future contact (personal and professional)
between the 2 composers of "This Time Around."

After all, didn't they go to school together?
Wasn't it......Deep Purple University?
Not too shabby none.......
