Arrow Thinkin' about stuff

hey guys and gals,
it's been a slow day on here, w/ the deep purple convention going on across the pond. i'm sure by now some lucky folks are getting a healthy dose of our papa and other purple related stuff.hopefully, we'll get some good postings out of it, some cool pics. and maybe some video. i hope everyone is having a lovely weekend...

on another thought, i saw in david's month end stats. that only about 7.something % of people signed up as members on here posted last month. if that's not your thing, that's fine. we in the very low minority that do post must have enough good, funny, smart, and informative stuff to say to keep the rest of you satisfied. if you have never posted, or haven't in a while, feel free to jump on in . the water's not too deep (purple, that is ) and it feels good.
peace to you all,

Yes purplemusic , it is noticeable that always a minority of members are posting their fingers to the bone . I can' t speak for the american members , but maybe some guys & girls from Europe , Asia and Southamerica are a little bit afraid 'cause they might think their english is too poor . First I was also afraid and my dictionary is my best friend . But I'm sure nobody in this community of nice and friendly people is laughing about some mistakes or poor grammar .

By the way : my 16 years old daughter encouraged me to sign up and post . She' a member of the Christina Aquilera Fanboard ( Don't worry , she likes Glenn too and speaks of him as the best male singer in the world ) and made over 500 posts to this day .

So come on you GH maniacs all around the world , keep on posting !!!!!!

Icon32 <--- Glenn's fans, around the world.

Speaking for myself.......and probably for most of us "others"
I always find it very funny when some "foreigner" says:

"Please, would you be so kind, as to accept my sincere apology,
for the very poor quality of my grammatically-incorrect English."

Folks ~
If you write: Glenn nice music.
We will understand what you are trying to say.
Luckily, there are no language barriers in music; if you don't easily
understand the lyrics, you can "la, la, la" or hum along with the melody.

We never have a "pop quiz" on the English language around here,
and most of the time, we'll get a translation from your fellow countryman,
so don't worry about it, OK?

(OK......from the Dutch....oll korrect )

Grace , maybe I'm wrong but I think your a little bit anoyed of what I'm posting . I definitely do not think in categories like " others" or "foreigner" . we are a fan comunity worldwide . My only intention was to post a few thoughts why so many members of this board are not posting with the exception of some Greeting words where they talk about their poor english. My intention was to encourage them to post .

NO, NO, NO.
I most certainly wasn't annoyed.
I was trying to let you know that people for whom English
is a second language (and who post here) usually apologize
for their poor English, which doesn't need any apology at all.

I was making a joke because what they considered as their
poor English is almost always at the top level of perfect.
I used the word "foreigner" as being anybody outside the US,
where this web site is based.

But people from Japan, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Russia,
Germany, Italy, France, Spain, etc. all post here..........
First they apologize for their poor English, and then they write
something that we can easily understand. In English.

It's as if Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev danced a paus de deux
from "Swan Lake" and then apologized afterwards, for being so clumsy!
No apology is necessary!

I encourage anybody from anyplace to say anything here,
about Glenn Hughes in particular, music in general, or anything "off topic"
that they want to say. And please accept MY APOLOGY, if it seemed
as if I was annoyed. I agree with you, more people should post.

We Americans butcher the English language more than anyone else, so no need for anyone to worry about having poor English skills. We don't care. We catch your drift. See...there's some slang for you right there

In the past, I've noticed that Europeans and others from elsewhere around the world, were going to the dot com site, and more Americans came here to ghpg.net. That's not the case any longer, we have the globe covered here. Which is very cool and is why I use the spinning globe as my post icon

Same here with the Germans and Austrians. I'd very much like to enter discussion though who tortures the German language more, us or the Germans...
Beware, I'm tough in discussions.

Soll ich übersetzen, Klaus A.?

That's interesting, Chip, I had exactly the same feeling over at GHPG.net. Very well put.
Looking forward to the we have the globe covered here part.

Cheers and best
Christian

I greatly admire the fact that so many of you from around the globe who don't use English as your first language contribute so well on here. As Grace says ' Glenn' and 'music' we all understand, and I for one understand what's being relayed anyhow.

I learned French and Latin at school, but wanted to take German and Spanish I used to visit Roberto and Giampiero's Italian GH website on a regular basis many moons ago and contributed very little because of my non-existent Italian. It was also available in English but ... difficult anyhow. Now there's a language I wish I could speak fluently

We have many interpreters on here from around the globe when we need them so ... type away. 'Hello, I love Glenn's voice. Goodbye' is not a bad start We can all learn something from each other as we go along.

Icon27 An ever shrinking world...

The Internet has brought people from all the corners of the earth that would never have been able to get acquainted....pretty cool! I think about the GHCP's I have met and the great times I have had....thinking about people like Feodor and Mark Wedderall who traveled halfway around the world to see Glenn and the DVD shoot.

And the language barrier is not nearly the boogie man that some might think. Europeans are way ahead of Americans in that being multilingual is the rule rather than the exception. I took French in high school and regret that I didn't take it seriously.....but there is always Berlitz, right?

I have been here since 2002 and really got involved in 2003 after the Velvet Sessions show in Orlando. And I have loved every second!
