Icon47 Sweet Revenge

Iīve been listening to the unofficial release of "demos" by Robin George and Glenn Hughes. Some of these tracks have been released before, like Haunted - Highlander 2. Robin George himself have rerecorded many of these tracks for his solo albums.

Itīs very sad that it didnīt get a proper release. Donīt come crying is awesome. For each spin of the disc I get to like the tracks. To me this is turning into one of Glenn best recorded work.

To describe the music is not that easy. Sometimes it sounds like something from Gary Moore episode, the next itīs very much Robin George....

This is songs that the family members like - which canīt be said about all of Glenns releases.
The sound is good but not excellent. The mix could be much better.

Listening to this, it appears these are different versions of 'the 1990 songs' to the commonly available wobbly boot releases ('White Soul Rockin' Black' / 'Welcome To The Lost World') or the rarer mixer-desk boot of 9 tracks.

The title track kicks things off 'Sweet Revenge' with a wonderful Stevie Wonder-ish 'Superstition' motif added to the music - great stuff! An exuberant vocal from our boy too.

Nice to see a few new (to me) tracks included ('War Dance', 'Number One' & 'Machine' - I thought these might just be different titles for familiar material before I listened) and even the lyrics included in the booklet! Most of the material is written by Robin George, but Glenn gets a couple of co-writing credits.

Cheers

T.

sweet revenge

...i think I have been 'waiting' for around 16 years or so to hear clean hifi versions of some of the tracks of this (still illegal) release.

Don't come crying, Flying and Things have gotta change rank among Glenn's best vocals deliveries, ever.

He's singing in a soulful but also aggressive rock mode.
Most surprising is the dusted off 'Flying' where Glenn showcases his vocal abilities.

not the best timing for this release for Glenn (he might not earn any money from this), but a welcome release for all fans...

A very cool Japanese bootleg cd indeed. After a long hiatus of bootleg releases it was cool to see this product to see the day of light

Yep stupid me, I was wrong. I wasn't aware of the release Anders, Tarquin and Ad were referring too. Big coincidence the bootleg version has the same title. I didn't know about this 'new' release. When did it came out? The Japanese boot I was referring to came out about a year ago.

No worries, Arjen - I was talking about Steve's reference to your CD as a bootleg, when in fact the new version Steve was referring to is itself an unauthorized release Fancy liner notes, lyrics and photos or not, 'Sweet Revenge' is a bootleg no matter how you cut it. A great sounding, quality boot of unreleased demos, but still a boot.

There's even more, Todd.
dpurpleface is a cop who's selling an unauthorized release at eBay and supposedly owns another one (the Japanese boot)!

Cheers,
Christian

P.S. Arjen, take a look HERE!

P.P.S. I totally second that Flying and Things Have Gotta Change could have been huge when they were originally recorded. Just a little support and promotion from a (major) label and there they could have gone...

Hello Everyone,
Would anyone be willing to burn me
a copy of the "Sweet Revenge" cd & the Jap copy
as well? I would send blanks as well as pay for
shipping. Also could trade if I have something you want.
Just shoot me an e-mail. Thanks.
Hopefully Glenn & Robin will get paid for this.
I don't want to give the record co. money if they won't
give GH or Robin anything.
Thanks,
Galleyfan

It occurred to me to mention the fact that drummer Dave Holland has also worked with Robin George, on Robin's excellent 1985 release 'Dangerous Music'. A few other names that appeared on that same record are Philip Lynott, Pino Palladino (The Who) and Phil Soussan (Ozzy, Billy Idol, Richie Kotzen).

Man, I'd love to get the official CD of that album...all I have is the cassette, which sounds pretty good burned onto a CD-R, but still....

Cheers...Todd

That would be great if Glenn & Robin put out the songs
as a download. Even though I had a copy from a friend
I would still buy to support them. They should get the money
and not some stupid crooked co. trying to profit off their names.
Having the last 3 tracks would be sweet. Just wish Glenn would
also do the same with REAL WORLD, IT'S NOT TOO LATE and
HOMELAND, and EASY TOUCH.
