Icon47 F U N K audio preview

*mp3 samples attached
Quote:
Frontiers Records is pleased to present all the details about the release of the highly anticipated
GLENN HUGHES new album entitled First Underground Nuclear Kitchen (F U N K) on
May 11th, 2008.

Produced by GLENN in Los Angeles, after countless hours spent writing in his home studio, "F U N K" is another magnificent statement from the "Voice of Rock".

"It is a roots album, it is a true account of my musical heritage but also fearless and multi-dimensional".

Once again GLENN has reinvented himself and his art, being able to offer a new album which is truly emotional and picturing his own current way to speak the language of music.

"The beauty of makin’ music, for me", explains the former Deep Purple singer and bassist, "is to have a vast blank canvas. To completely open myself up to the universe and the spirits, that these days, live with me day and night. I am no longer in fear of the dark, or what lurks behind door number 13. The songs on my new album were written in, and around my Los Angeles home, sometimes in semi-consciousness... sometimes, in a dreamstate, sometimes fully alert, as I was in full jog down by the harbour... these new songs are a true vindication. And realization, of the gift of a serene life, one day at a time".

The result is a brilliant balance of the diverse influences that have always been present in Glenn’s music, but with an incredible and very addictive mood that helps creating a feeling of joy and true enjoyment all over the album. "I believe that the hard work has been worth waitin’ 4, this is 4 all my fans, and beyond: a deep Musical Statement", concludes GLENN.

Once again all drums on the record were played by none other than the great Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, while Luis Maldonado took care of the majority of the guitars (JJ Marsh and George Nastos only appear on 2 songs each) and Anders Olinder is on keyboards (with Ed Roth guesting on 3 songs).

Final tracklisting of "F U N K" includes the following tracks (* mp3 samples attached):

Crave *
First Underground Nuclear Kitchen *
Satellite *
Love Communion *
We Shall Be Free
Imperfection
Never Say Never
We Go To War
Oil And Water
Too Late to Save the World
Where There’s A Will

GLENN has just finished shooting a promo video for the fist single 'Love Communion' which will be included on the CD as special bonus: stay tuned for an exclusive preview on YouTube soon!

Sounds great so far! "Satellite" is a bit of a different song for Glenn - almost sounds like Sting! I think that one might be my favorite of the four...though I just started listening to the samples. My opinion could change by the 20th listen!

i do get the sting comparison on satillite, although i dont think glenn is trying to copy or sound like anyone, i just think it's got a simular vibe. so far, i'm the most down w/ funk. i like the way glenn sings those words; "this is the first underground nuclear kitchen" it just got such a funky hook to it, ive got it stuck in my mind.... and i like it

That site has been down all day. I couldn't remember my account name here so I made a new one, and posted 10 posts, but still can't access.

I've now heard the samples from here instead!

Wow. The title is the right title for sure. All I can say is FUNK.

Extremely funky. The voice sounds great too. My favorite is Love Communion.

I can't wait. Hopefully this will be the soundtrack to my summer!

It takes a few minutes after you hit the magic number to gain access - it's all automated, so Shirean and I don't have to be awake 24x7 So you should have access now

Thanks for the tasters David but it is really annoying, just as you are getting into the track it cuts out leaving you wanting more !!

Yes i now that is the point but it is really frustrating.

All the tracks sound really great and Glenns voice is like a fine wine, getting better with age; cant wait for May to come around.

It's really hard to pick just one from these samples as they're all so strong.

Crave is such a great opener, Satellite, haunting and so atmospheric, great for winding down after First Underground Nuclear Kitchen, which is such a dance track; going to have lots of fun with that one! And Love Communion so exemplifies GLENN, talk about a song you can show off to your friends and get them to join the GHCP family

4 great samples.

Crave is a great one to open the set with Has a BTM/SITKOR groove and sound i think. My personal favourite here.

FUNK will get anyone jumping about

Satellite, one to chill/rest to after jumping about to the others

Love Communion, nice to hear the horns on it.

only thing missing is the other 6 samples!

Thank you David for posting the links.

I listened to the samples and to Love Communion in full (on the Rock the bones CD vol 6). My fav without any doubt is Love Communion. I love the association of a strong bass line with the horns. It reminded me of Miles Davis. Was this made with "real" instruments or with a computer ? Anyway, it sounds just great.

The mix was much much better on the CD than on the samples I heard on my computer's speakers. I couldn't listen to the samples in the best conditions. But what I heard seems promising...I just can't wait for the 11th of May...F.U.N.K. is definitely on my birthday wishlist
