Icon34 Classic Rock July 06 - Glenn and Chad

The new July issue of Classic Rock, yes I know its not even June yet, has none other than Glenn and Chad interviewed together in an article headlined “Friends are electric”. Followed by “ …. together they’ve made the album that seals Hughes’ rehabilitation”. John Frusciante also contributes to the piece.

There is a great full page picture of Chad interviewed together in an article headlined “Friends are electric”. Followed by “ …. together they’ve made the album that seals Hughes’ rehabilitation”. Their names are on the front cover too.
Chad’s gone My wife says it suits you Soulmover

There is then two pages of chat with our boys.
A few quotes:

GH “sex and drugs and rock n roll was great in 1972, but not now. Well, maybe sex …”

GH “Chad is the bastard son of Keith Moon and John Bonham on this album”.

GH “I’d love to work with Jay Kay (of Jamiroquai)”

CS about Frusciante “he writes an album when he goes to take a ****”

JF on Glenn “I don’t think I’ve ever played with someone who’s such an out of this world singer”

CR “M4TD, a rich and varied collection that encompasses Hughes’s diverse musical background”

CR “the respect and fondness they have for each other is evident”

Plus it’s also revealed the cover is the view from a bedroom balcony at Chad’s house, which was previously owned by Cary Grant by the way.

There is no actual review of M4TD so I presume the interview was done before a promo copy was available.

I don’t have a scanner but I know someone else will post it all up here pretty soon.

Also this month, especially for Todd, there is a 4 page piece on Gary Moore in which he makes it clear that he won’t be doing any rock albums again. His favourite rock album is Wild Frontier whereas he calls Victims of the Future “a feeble attempt at heavy rock”. He also says that when he lived in LA, Ozzy kept asking him to join his band but “I wasn’t having any of it”.

In the reviews section Tommy Bolin’s Whips and Roses gets 8/10. “W&R is stunning” “the album’s a treasure trove” “bow in awe to a guitar god”. I got it last week myself and it proves again what a genius TB was. No matter how many times I hear any version of Teaser or Wild Dogs they still sends tingles down my spine.

The next issue of CR will be a blues-rock special featuring The Allman Brothers and Robin Trower among others.

I couldn't get the wrapping off quick enough Wolfy! Brilliant photo of Glenn and Chad and great reading. David mentioned on here some time ago that Cary Grant lived in this particular house of Chad's.

Also read a surprise article on Marc Bolan and his obvious albums, and I'm off to bed now with my cuppa to settle down to the Gary Moore piece.

M4TD is advertised on the back on the mag, so perhaps we should walk around with the back page showing when we're in public?

8/10 for Tommy's Whips & Roses - waiting for its arrival.

Now THAT's the kind of photos that should be in the CD liner notes...nothing like the dreadful mannequin shots of a few years ago.

Cheers...Todd

What a great article about "Music for the Divine."
What a great article about Glenn's life, and his music.

And I especially liked the way that soulmover and JF
let the spotlight stay on Glenn for this article, while all they
pretty much said was totally complimentary about our boy,
and that it was an honor for them to work with him.

Hey.......
Who gave Chad Smith permission to wear deep purple socks,
as seen in the photograph by the pool?

OH, OK.
I guess that after so many compliments to Glenn's talent,
Chad now has Glenn's official DP permission to wear them.

As previously mentioned.....a great article. Thanks wolfy.

I especially like the very last sentence of the article, it really stands out.

It may have taken Hughes years to find out who he really is, but others have known for quite some time.
