Icon33 Winners - Cal Jam Competition

With thanks to Thomson Music/T2Media and to help celebrate the anniversary of the California Jam festival with the MKIII line-up of Deep Purple, we have 2 copies of the Deep Purple - Live In California 74 DVD* to giveaway.

We'll also throw-in our most sort after black Coast To Coast t-shirt as a bonus, as modeled below by our very special guests

A consolation prize for a 3rd place runner-up will also receive one of these coveted black t-shirts

So, answer these 3 questions and one of the prizes could be yours!

1. What album were Deep Purple promoting at the time of the California Jam?

2. How many dates comprised the 1974 Deep Purple tour of the USA including the California Jam?

3. Which song in the festival's set list has only recently seen the light of day and is included on this DVD?

Simply post your answers here in reply and the lucky winners will be randomly selected from the entries received.

The competition closes on April 5th and the 3 prize winners will be announced right here on Thursday, April 6th, 2006! Have fun and good luck!

* DVD is the NTSC/All Region Code edition.

If we post our 3 answers "here"

they will be read by all registered GHCPs.

Which is OK with me, but...................

Shouldn't our answers be posted to: dands@ghpg.net

1. Burn was the album they were promoting on the '74 US tour.

2. It was a 28 date tour (the longest any incarnation of Deep Purple had undertaken up to that time.......I counted only 27 dates in my Illustrated History of DP)

3. Lay Down, Stay Down was missing track......

Maybe I'm wrong, Tero, but I don't think that Deep Purple
(at least with our boy in the line-up) ever played Madison Square Garden.

The 1974 New York City appearance was the Nassau Coliseum.
Which may look like "New York" to somebody from Guatemala,
but it's half-way in the middle of Long Island.
('Ya got: Brooklyn--> Queens--> NASSAU--> Suffolk--> the Atlantic Ocean.)
So it wasn't really "in the city."

And the 75/76 tour appearance was in Radio City Music Hall.
(6th Avenue and E 50th Street in Manhattan.)
I went there a gazillion times when I was a kid,
to see the weekly stage show, corps de ballet, and the first-run movie.
Plus the Rocketts, of course!

I wonder what Glenn thought when DP MK4 walked out onto THAT STAGE?
Maybe the DP all-line-up reunion concert will be held there.

In answer to the other question:
Poor DC was spitting out flies.
Everybody else must have been just eating them as they flew around.......
or sang with their mouths closed.
And I've often wondered why nobody moved Jon Lord's equipement
closer together. The poor man was trying to play two different
keyboards at the same time.
Only they were about six feel apart.....and JL couldn't reach that far.

And we'll probably keep whining about ice cream,
until Glenn sells some to us GHCPs, at his current tour (?) appearances.

Well, i already have the BBC video, the new dvd, the Burn T-Shirt, and the CTC shirt, so im not going to enter

I remember the late, great Tommy Vance playing the first three tracks from the BBC video in a world exclusive on his legendary Friday Night Rock Show. i still have the original c90 cassette i recorded it on

Here are my 3 questions:

1.Who is that good looking guy is between Glenn & Chad

2. In that pic is Chad's jacket too small

3. Or is Chad's t-shirt too long

yes, the book lists 27 dates but in the text on those pages it says "Burn was released to coincide with the 28 concert outing"

maybe its all a trick question from David cos DP then played 4 more shows in August.

Hey, dopey person...........
What about starting Lucy's "Hope Chest" with some good stuff?

Quote:

Answers:
1. That guy is the President of the GHCP Ax Murderers - British Division.
(Luckily, Glenn and Chad put up the bail money, so that this picture could be taken.)
2. No.
3. No.

Chad was going to a formal affair afterwards,
and his white cummerbund fell down.

If all answers are correct, does "Grammy Grace" get to win Lucy?

PS.........the picture of the person on the extreme right-hand side,
shows what happens whenever anybody tries to "elbow" their way
to the front of the autograph line at "A Glenn Hughes - Meet and Greet."

Tony,

DP's performance at the Cal Jam event originally came out here on vhs as an official BBC video release. i bought it years ago when first issued. im sure David will tell you when it was !

its interesting to have because its edited quite differently from the new dvd . in fact i would say the picture quality is better on the video. you can also get "California Jamming" on cd .
