Icon47 New Album - sessions complete!

GLENN is home after returning from Bulgaria last week and is now in full swing with the recording process for his new solo album. JJ is of course, also now Stateside and yesterday, they were both over at Chad's house to continue the sessions.

Picture Courtesy: Nancy Mack Smith / Gabrielle Hughes

As you'll remember from a recent press interview, GLENN informed us about some of the details of the new record....."I've written more songs than ever before on this record, there are maybe 25 songs we've got on the chalkboard, and 12 will make the record. It's funk, rock, soul, and pop all mixed together in a big soup. I'm probably going to have some real strings and maybe some more orchestrated songs. This one, and I'll quote Chad here, is going to be the most varied record I've ever done."

Hughes and Smith have been close friends for several years; Smith also co-produced Hughes' 2005 album "Soul Mover" and will fill the same role on the new release. "While writing new music for this record, Chad and I thought it would be great to have John come in, write and play on a couple of the tunes," Hughes says. "John has written a song specifically for me. John Frusciante is quite possibly the most musical person I've ever met. He is 'at one' with his guitar, and I've never met anyone quite so insanely dedicated to the craft of writing and playing an instrument."

The album will be recorded at Smith's home in the Hollywood Hills and is tipped to feature tracks like "Oil and Water," "Frail," "Black Light," "Stepping On" and "The Valiant Denial." Also playing on the set will be guitarist J.J. Marsh, who has appeared on Hughes' last several solo releases.

Thanks for the photo......Nancy and Gabi

But it looks as if Chad has been spending too much time at the stove,

cooking up "The Big Soup."

Gotta' go nite-nite first.......THEN......do some serious cookin'.

With a double album they could put all the funkier stuff on one disk and the more rock oriented stuff on the other. I'm sure both would be great in their own right.

This way it would please fans of the different persuasions and you could have a cd for whatever GH mood you might be in!!

But we'll more than happily take the best 12 songs on one disk

I guess there is a bigger budget this time due to the success of SM. Maybe the sound quality will be better than SM my only small critisim of the SM album , all sounds rather exiciting though, can't wait to hear it

Glenn could do what the Foo Fighters did on their last album - two stylistically divergent discs as part of one complete package! Wouldn't that be something?!

I think it's exciting that Glenn is working on a new album as we speak, and that he is so prolific. None of us really know what to expect either, other than to have our expectations met or, more likely, surpassed.

Cheers...Todd

hi all,

i'm affraid that to put out an 'commercially' succesfull double album they should write over 60 songs and put 24 on the album.

Then all 24 songs must be briljant. If there are any 'lesser' songs on an album people will judge the album based on those songs.

Now the best Glenn can do is put out just a regular 12 song album with the best material he has ever written. And maybe write some stuff with the peppers.

Glenns best songs (imho) are always songs he co-writes with other musicians (David C., marc bonilla, Ritchie B)

cheers

Maybe I should have posted that I wasn't serious. That was just a bit of "wouldn't that be cool if..." fantasy. I know that would never fly, at least here in the States. Although if bands like AINA, Ayreon and Ten vocalist Gary Hughes can do it, maybe there's no real reason Glenn couldn't do it too.

Here's hoping the photographer has Glenn smile in a photo or two this time - the music's full of life, the photo's should be no different! Glenn's got a lot to be happy about, so there's no reason to get a bunch of sourpuss "I'm mad" photos. LOL

Cheers...Todd

Wow, that coat Glenn is wearing looks like its of the "Amazing technicolour dream coat" variety. Has Andrew Lloyd Weber contributed to the song writing?

Is recording going to wrap up at the end of this month? Still aiming for a late spring release?

Unless something crops up, they should be done recording in the next few days.

Mixing starts in March and the final production should be in your hands in late Spring, early Summer

Icon47 Done!

It looks like the sessions are now complete with the strings done and just the mixing to do in mid March.

Early June is now the scheduled release timeframe
