CHAT transcript - November 20th, 2005
David: Afternoon all!
englishrob: hi David
David: Looks like we're off to a slow start again today.....most folks usually show up in a little while. Shirean will be here in a minute.
englishrob: yeah, seems a bit quiet
David: So next time we see eachother I'll be sure and have a natter.....wasn't until recently I realized you're the same rob I've seen post gigs....sorry about that!!
englishrob: lol, no problem
David: yeah it's only been the last 2 UK solo tours + HTP...better late than never!
englishrob: not too sure when the next show will be though
David: probably next Summer
englishrob: hi Shirean
Shirean: Hello Rob
Shirean: How are you?
englishrob: i'm good thanks...a bit tired as i've been working early's
David: so how was Spain anyways, we were thinking about it, but decided it against at the last minute. Seems like everyone had a really good time.
englishrob: yeah, it was a blast...the crowds were very responsive
David: ...and it looks like Glenn will be filling that passport up of his again very soon!
David: Hello Lazy
Lazy: Hi all
englishrob: yeah, i hear that Australia could be on the cards
englishrob: hi Lazy
Shirean: Welcome Lazy
David: yeah, it sounds like it's really going to happen, which is great news.
englishrob: and "Soul Mover" will be released there soon
Shirean: I don't think GH has ever played Australia as a solo artist - correct me if I'm wrong.
David: sounds like "Nights In White Satin" has gone down really well there too, so it's great they're able to include it as a Bonus.
englishrob: probably not....it's such a long trip
David: you're right luv.
englishrob: most bands tag it on after a japanese tour
David: So Lazy, you're from Bulgaria right?
Lazy: Yes, I am
David: must seem quite sometime since you saw GH. But looks like we'll have a new album to listen to just after Spring time next year.
Shirean: Yes indeed I can't WAIT!
Lazy: Every GH album is celebration for me
englishrob: hi capt
captmidnite1962: Good afternoon everyone
captmidnite1962: And all sorts of great Glenn news for the New year
Lazy: Good evening
David: Hi Capt'n
englishrob: no stopping him now lol
captmidnite1962: I was just listening to Play Me Out last night....
captmidnite1962: The recent thread gave me a nudge
David: Not everyone's cup of tea, but I love it.....
Shirean: GH has a tenitive title for the CD.. But its TOP SECRET for the moment..
David: TOP SECRET, yeah that's it..
captmidnite1962: So do I.....top of the funk!!!
englishrob: lol
Shirean:
captmidnite1962: That's cool David...somehting else to look forward to!
englishrob: any news on JJ's cd?
Shirean: Forgot to say "Hello" Bill
captmidnite1962: Hi Shirean....had enough of hurricanes already??
David: It's going to work out nicely, as the Chili Peppers record comes out a couple of months beforehand, so once the new one is out, the Peppers are going to be on everyone's lips, so hopefully it'll get even more recogition than "Soul Mover".
David: Chad is a cool guy, you may think that we're all GHCP'ers, but he has just as much right to that title, even John Frusciante so i'm told.
Shirean: Yes - I miss the SF FOG!!
captmidnite1962: That is great news...
captmidnite1962: I did love the climate out there...it seems so long ago that I lived there
Shirean: Its a balmy 81 here today!
englishrob: freezing here!
captmidnite1962: When I flew out to see Glenn at Brookdale....so much had changed in 10 years..I felt like Rip Van Winkle!!
Shirean:
captmidnite1962: Pleasant here...in the sticks!!
captmidnite1962: I drove around with my mouth agape much of the time
Shirean: You guys need to get your GH faces on!
captmidnite1962: I know...how do I do that??
David: click the chess icon
englishrob: there you go
Shirean: Everybody loves to play with Papa !
captmidnite1962: OK..I am up with the Joneses now!!
englishrob: ok, gonna run..gotta be up early
captmidnite1962: Take care Rob!!
englishrob: take care all...see ya soon
Shirean: Bye Rob have a nice day tomorrow
David: ok, thanks englishrob for stopping by
englishrob: no probs...byee
captmidnite1962: I hope Shirl shows up....she was so kind to send me those Classic rock mags!
David: yeah, coincidentally we got ours in the mail yesterday, so put up that Bolin article
captmidnite1962: You can get it by subscription here in the US?
David: yeah, it's expensive $100 a year I think....we have a friend get it for us though.
captmidnite1962: Hmm..you have cool friends!!
David: actually, think it's for 6 or so issues not a year....can't remember.
Shirean: Why so quiet Lazy?
David: we unsubscribed sometime ago.....only ask for issues that have something relevant in them.
captmidnite1962: Giving Blues a spin.....jamming to I'm The Man!
captmidnite1962: I understand that....that is a lot of money!
Lazy: Because I write very slow in English
Shirean: I understand
David: we've been playing ROCK and BTM a lot recently, would be nice to hear some of those songs live....
Shirean: BTM
captmidnite1962: I had that on last night!
David: ....like "This Life", "Angela", "Inside", "Out On Me"....
Shirean: The next time I'm at a GH gig I'm gonna request that he play "Inside" !
captmidnite1962: There was a thread about production....if any of Glenn's CD's could be called over-produced....ROCK would marginally qualify...A favorite of mine though!
captmidnite1962: "Inside" would kick!!
David: especially with Chad on drums - he would kick arse, as they say back home!!!
David: and with Kjell on keys....yeah, they could easily play it live
captmidnite1962: Yes he would....what an engine room he is!!
captmidnite1962: Y'know..I STILL have to get a copy of SLITCOA....is the new edition that much of an improvement??
David: The USA edition is a great improvement, but still has the odd sync issue, but it's hardly noticable compared to the original release - just wish they'd run a spell check on the song titles!!
Lazy: Look at this:
http://whitesnake.com/bbs/searchdc.asp
Lazy: The last two DC posts
captmidnite1962: The Whitesnake DVD is due out soon..is it not?
David: sorry, what was he saying Lazy....?
captmidnite1962: DC has developed carpal tunnel syndrome..
Shirean:
captmidnite1962: he is being treated for it
David: shows how busy he is
David: seriously though, him and Glenn are talking nearly everyday, wouldn't surprise me if this develops to something, although I doubt for a little while longer.
captmidnite1962: Do we want to specualte on that???
captmidnite1962: That would be cool
Lazy: I don't understand very well - his style is different for me.
Shirean: Sorry not a big Coverdale fan here
David: I don't know. It's just cool they're still good friends after all these years. You can see Glenn mentions him....on the message he posted over at gh.com...so they're talking.
David: baby steps and all that....
captmidnite1962: I always preferred the Moody/Marsden era myself
Shirean: Me too.
captmidnite1962: And it is cool that Bernie and Micky are still playing together
David: yeah me too. His voice seems shot to me these days, unless I caught it on a bad day when listening to a few boots of the recent tours. It seems his band covered for him most of the time, especially on the Purple numbers.
captmidnite1962: Talk about peas in a pod!
captmidnite1962: I saw WS in 1987..and again at Shoreline in 1990
David: can't seem to get those high notes/screams like he used it, whereas Glenn can do it in his sleep, better now, than ever!
Shirean: I saw them in the UK in 1983,1987
Shirean: 1987 Day On The Green
captmidnite1962: I never liked his ventures into Robert Plant territory...the lower end of his voice was always cool though
Lazy: I saw them in 1997 and 2003
Shirean: David - Bill has been to Shoreline
captmidnite1962: And at the end of Mistreated...Glenn sounds so much like DC with the low end of his voice it is chilling!
captmidnite1962: Yes I was...WS and Bad English
David: We were living in the UK that year, probably would have bumped into you otherwise!!
Shirean: The best time I had at Shoreline was in the bar for Alice Cooper
captmidnite1962: I was up in the lawn area...
David: yeah, that's why we headed for the bar - TV monitors were showing the gig live....why be uncomfortable
captmidnite1962: Caught a few shows during my 2 years there..The Who..Jeff Beck and SRV...
Shirean: Our seats were crap
Lazy: I give you that link above because I didn't understand very well what says DC about Glenn
captmidnite1962: Now That was a killer show!!
David: he was just saying that he was supposed to catch up with him in person in LA last week, but they missed each other. That's what I read briefly.
Lazy: I see. Thanks
David: Hope to get the CalJam DVD in a couple of weeks, hopefully Air Mail won't delay it. From what I've heard it came out really good.
captmidnite1962: Anything new with JJ and his solo CD?
captmidnite1962: I have to put the CalJam DVD on my list
captmidnite1962: Hello Christian
David: funny you should ask Bill. Just got an email from him today. He's still trying to get a distribution deal sorted, as he'd prefer not to have to do it himself. He'll know soon if it's going to happen, and if not, will do it himself. We hope to have more news on that shortly.
chrisloeb: Hi there!
captmidnite1962: Cool!! I will be waiting!
David: Hi Christian
David: that's what we're telling him....
David: so he knows it.
chrisloeb: What's goin' on
captmidnite1962: I am listening to Blues...Tony Franklin is just smoking!!
David: just talking about the latest GH news, JJ, DC and others...
captmidnite1962: Who says the fretless bass can't rock???
chrisloeb: Great, I just bought a fretless bass recently
chrisloeb: actually I bought one back I had sold a couple of years ago, fortunately to a friend of mine
captmidnite1962: Really?? What kind??
chrisloeb: It's a 1981 Ibanez "Musician" model
chrisloeb: great neck!
captmidnite1962: I was watching the Cream reunion DVD..Jack brings out the Warwick halfway through
captmidnite1962: He started the show with an old EB-1...
chrisloeb: I thought that was funny, yet very consequent - he had been playing the Warwick for more than 20 years!
captmidnite1962: he said in the interview that he actually toyed with the idea of playing the old EB-3....that didn't last
captmidnite1962: Both basses sound great!!
chrisloeb: I'd love to have one of those, and yet I don't. I think they're really good for toying around (and for the look of them, of course). I have an Ibanez lawsuit copy of that as well, I have used it for gigs, but it's definitely dated
chrisloeb: the short and thin necks are great to play chords and show off a little though
captmidnite1962: Ibanez got their start as a copycat company...but they were damn good copies..too good....got them in trouble
chrisloeb: I know - I love them!
captmidnite1962: I saw an Ibanez Rick 4001 copy for sale...you would never know the difference
chrisloeb: no, you don't

- only at closer inspection
captmidnite1962: Shirl gave me the address of a killer T-shirt company in the UK..they have some Glenn shirts there
Shirean: Which tours?
captmidnite1962: The one they had has Glenn playing a Rick...so '73-74
captmidnite1962: www.djtees.com
Shirean: David's got a Rick over in the corner
captmidnite1962: Really??
captmidnite1962: A lefty??
Shirean: Yes
Shirean: He will tell you the stats on it, I have no clue
captmidnite1962: COOL!!!
chrisloeb: djtees are fine! There's also another company, their name escapes me, something like indy-visuals at eBay, different name on the net though
Shirean: At least I think its a Rick
Shirean: I may be wrong - David?
captmidnite1962: I need to search some out Christian
chrisloeb: a left-hand Rick in the corner - wow!
chrisloeb: I'm looking fo the receipt Captain, I bought a Moog T-Shirt from them a couple of days ago...
David: No, it's a Fender Precision, maple on black
captmidnite1962: Thanks!!
captmidnite1962: Just like Phil Lynott
chrisloeb: Fender Precision, well that's not too bad either
David: got it in '79 - decided to keep hold of it....don't play it anymore, so it looks cool in the corner.
Shirean: Lefty
chrisloeb: Phil Lynott, yes
captmidnite1962: put a mirror pickguard on it and you are stylin'!!!
chrisloeb: blindin' the gals in the audience (sorry, Shirean

)
Shirean:
captmidnite1962: Recently a statue of Phil was dedicated in Ireland
chrisloeb: Yeah, I couldn't travel....
Shirean: I saw that on the net - very cool
Shirean: I had the pleasure of meeting him in 1983
chrisloeb: But hopefully a DVD of all the events will be released someday
captmidnite1962: Yes..in Dublin..and all the Lizzy alumni put on a concert
Shirean: Nice guy
chrisloeb: I think you've mentioned Shirean, but I don't remember the circumstances?
Shirean: Even though him and Gary Moore called me "Rice Legs", 'cuz of my thin LEGS !!
captmidnite1962: I bet you are taller than Gary, Shirean!!
chrisloeb: yeah, Gary seems to be gentleman, They call him scars, you know where that comes from
captmidnite1962: Where??
Shirean: Yes, I met them when I was a young 19 year old
chrisloeb: circa mid-Seventies, slashed by a "girlfriend" with a broken bottle as the legend says
Shirean: I met them in a nightclub in London called "The Funny Farm"
captmidnite1962: I see..never heard that story!
Shirean: I first met David that Summer too!
captmidnite1962: I am flashing on when Glenn's Mom met David...she said, "Aren't you Gary?"
Shirean:
I was there, it was so funny!
captmidnite1962: I bet it was!!
Shirean: I used to tell David he looked a lot like Gary
captmidnite1962: He does..but taller!!
Shirean:
chrisloeb: he obviously doesn't nowadays though.
David: yeah, it took me a few minutes to explain I wasn't him. It was cool, we had a very nice chat!
chrisloeb:
captmidnite1962: I remember David saying that when you look at Sheila Hughes you see Glenn totally
David: Captn' if you look at page 53 of Classic Rock you have you'll see McBrain wearing one of those clubs t-shirts back in the '80s....what Shirean was talking about a minute ago.
Shirean: Todd was telling me he was going to see Moore in the UK in March - I kindly offered my mint never worn 'Wild Frontiers' tour shirt for him to wear..
chrisloeb: David, are you still "cleaning out the closet" and transferring the video tapes?
captmidnite1962: I will have a look...
David: Practically all down now Christian, it's taken nearly 6 months, but we've made it!!
David: Hi Todd!
Shirean: You made it
chrisloeb: Captain, I found the receipt, their adress is rocknrollstuff.co.uk
captmidnite1962: I bet that was a huge job!!
Toddzilla: Barely! Had to switch to my wife's laptop.
captmidnite1962: Thanks!!
chrisloeb: Hi Todd
captmidnite1962: Hey Todd!
Toddzilla: Howdy everybody
chrisloeb: seems to be quite a collection
captmidnite1962: Oh no..they say he's got to go...Go go Toddzilla!!
chrisloeb: you know, I still owe you the MTV Special and the Why on't You Stay Video Clip
Shirean: Yes we collected everything in the 80, 90's!
Shirean: Todd - Go and get your GH face
Toddzilla: Everybody be sure to check out my John Lodge anecdote - I just posted it, lol And where do I get my face?
chrisloeb: you beat me seconds to that, Shirean
chrisloeb: I beat Todd seconds to mentioning the fact that Glenn Hughes is a GHCP trainee only!
Chip: Hello everyone.
David: if you can FTP Christian that might be quickest, unless you have them on CD.....you can always stick it in the mail.
Toddzilla: About time you showed up...
David: Hi Chip
Shirean: Hi Chip I was looking for your phone number to remind you of the chat
Shirean: Hello Tony
David: Hi tony g
tony g: hey hey
Chip: Was working in the yard and lost track of time.
chrisloeb: Hi Chip, Hi tony g!
Shirean: Wanna come work in my yard?
tony g: i almost got lost at the store
Toddzilla: You don't have to try and impress us with your diligent workaholic-ness. You're among friends.
chrisloeb: David, they're still on VHS - but I'm working on a solution..... (well for the last 1 1/2 years...)
David: well, feel free to send the VHS, I can transfer, then return.....it'll save waiting another 1-1/2 years
tony g: whats the good word you guys
Shirean: Glenn's got a tentative CD title - its top secret for now
Toddzilla: That's a weird title. lol
tony g: cool
David: haha, yeah that was said earlier!
chrisloeb: I'm glad it's late sunday evening here - no working in yards, no store open.....
Toddzilla: Great minds think alike.
David: it'll all make sense when u read the transcript!
chrisloeb: Funny that Big Daddy comes up with a title at that early stage
chrisloeb: I thought that generally that is the hardest decision you have to make!?
David: it's not finally decided yet, but he's leaning heavily towards one particular one.
Toddzilla: Why doesn't he just make it a contest on the site? Winning title gets a prize pack.
tony g: i wish it was that easy
chrisloeb: a Manne bass guitar, maybe?
Toddzilla: I don't know that a new album title is worth $4,000
chrisloeb: I'd think of 1000 titles....
Toddzilla: Me too, lol
David: maybe for the greatest hits package!
chrisloeb:
Chip: Yeah..I submit "Greatest Hits".
Shirean:
Shirean: Jeez - you boys are quiet don't you have anything to say..
captmidnite1962: Time for Hughes Thrall..I didn't split..was on the phone...
captmidnite1962: Here i am....
chrisloeb: a minute's silence for the Greatest Hits title
tony g: whats the latest news David?
Chip: Everyone is amazed at my genius, Shirean
captmidnite1962: And I didn't hear the funky theme music when "The Chip And Todd Traveling Road Show" made their entrance
Toddzilla: Ok, I'll toss in 'Best of Glenn Hughes' as a second runner up.
chrisloeb: it would get a review in Penthouse either way...
Chip: We're working on a theme song. Grace has already sent a suggestion.
Shirean: Oh David your being paged!
Shirean: We got an email from JJ today.
captmidnite1962: it wasn't Attack Of The Mad Axeman...was it??
David: tony - you have all the latest via Glenn - we're expecting an update from JJ soon we hope, maybe someother things...but other than that, you're all caught up.
Toddzilla: Nice one, Bill! But no...
tony g: ok that was cool to see Glenn on here
captmidnite1962: Hey..thought i would try...
tony g: cool i hope jj cd is soon
chrisloeb: yeah, totally unexpected! Cool!
captmidnite1962: So do I!!
Toddzilla: When is JJ going to kick off his headlining US tour?
David: same day Glenn does
Toddzilla: Ah, touche...
Shirean:
tony g: ouch
captmidnite1962: yep..and Chip is going to run the road crew!!
Toddzilla: Not until he finishes his chores...
Shirean: And I'm the wardrobe mistress
chrisloeb:
Chip: No, I'll be selling t-shirts....no wait there probably wont' be any..so I'm out of a job.
tony g: ouch again
captmidnite1962: I could be the driver...i do drive a truck!
Toddzilla: I'll write up a review of the show, and maybe get an interview in...
David: Seriously, JJ mentioned he might do some local shows in Sweden with Albatross, but probably not until their 'debut' album comes out, and he has no idea when that might be due to his schedule. But he's writing for it. We hope to have an update soon, as that info is a couple of months old, so things have no doubt changed since then.
tony g: thats probably about all that will happen
Toddzilla: Damn, Sweden is a bit far for Chip and me...
Shirean: And me
captmidnite1962: Aw come on you guys..you have a rep to keep up!!
Chip: Yeah, no roads lead there that I know of.
captmidnite1962: We can do the Viking boat routine!
Toddzilla: The Devil's Road..
Shirean:
David: Well, Shirean and I are closer than we were!!!
chrisloeb: I recently found out that there already was a band called Albatross, mid-seventies group influenced by bands such as Genesis and Yes. What a coincidence!!!???
chrisloeb: again!!
Toddzilla: Yeah, you've got a five hour head start.
Chip: ...and 3.000 miles
captmidnite1962: I remember it as an instrumental by Fleetwood Mac
Toddzilla: You're right...Peter Green era
chrisloeb: nice one, yes
captmidnite1962: George Harrison said that "Sun King" was the Fab Four nicking the Mac
Toddzilla: I can't picture the Beatles nicking anyone.
chrisloeb: well, the other Albatross even released an album in 1976. I'll try and find a copy....
Toddzilla: Usually it's the other way around.
captmidnite1962: Ah yes...but they did Grasshopper
Toddzilla: I'll ask Sir Paul about it when I see him this weekend.
captmidnite1962: And when you can snatch the guitar picks from my hand..you may leave...
Shirean: I'll ask him the next time I'm over at Nancy and Cameron's for dinner!
captmidnite1962:
captmidnite1962: Name droppers..the whole lot of you!!!
chrisloeb:
Toddzilla: But Master, I'm a fingerpickin' player...\
captmidnite1962:
captmidnite1962: Yes my son....but does the wise man walk tio school...or does he carry his lunch??
captmidnite1962: Muscle And Blood..what a killer rhythm tone PT got on this!!
Toddzilla: And how about that bassist!
captmidnite1962: Yeah....some guy named Glenn Hughes....
chrisloeb: it's already late, isn't it - when does it close?
David: in about 5 mins
David: unless the late comers want to hang out
captmidnite1962: So Todd.. will we ever see the lost Michael Brude interview??
Toddzilla: Let's hold the chat in Vegas next time...we never close.
Toddzilla: Oh, don't remind me.
Shirean: I'll be there
chrisloeb: Vegas, I may be travelling there in February
captmidnite1962: I need to visit there. never have been
chrisloeb: not sure yet
Shirean: Make sure and look up Todd
Toddzilla: Feel free to e me
David: he'll show you the world famous tea shops
Shirean: He's a great tour guide
chrisloeb: yeah, I will as soon as I know
captmidnite1962: Oh you bet...isn't the Seely Inn a 5-star hotel??
Toddzilla: Hmm, more like 2. But that gives us something to strive for. lol
chrisloeb: might be only 2 or 3 days and then up to Vancouver to visit my brother
David: 2 or 3 days will be plenty christian, trust me!!!
captmidnite1962: Hey Todd...what is Satan up to??
Toddzilla: Touring South America with JSS
captmidnite1962: Cool....
Toddzilla: Actually, they may have just returned.
captmidnite1962: I was listening to Soul Sirkus yesterday
Chip: some great songs on that album
Toddzilla: I think Glenn and JSS should go on tour together...they could bill it as the Soul To Soul tour.
captmidnite1962: Hell yeah!!!
captmidnite1962: Seriously...could you imagine that???
Toddzilla: Yes, I can!
Toddzilla: Soul SirkUS and the Soul Mover\
David: Soulful Xmas time soon!
Shirean: That's what the Harrison's will be listening to on Christmas Day
captmidnite1962: Yes it is....I get a bit sad though...Soulful Christmas was the last CD I bought from Buccaneer records...RIP!!
David: while we watch the "log"...
Toddzilla: Aw dude, you're making me sad and nostalgic now! Buccaneer rocked!
captmidnite1962: Oh yeah..Christmas in Florida!!
captmidnite1962: They were killer!!
Chip: ...while lounging by the pool, grilling and chillin'..
chrisloeb: Buccanerr were great. Bought nice CDs there
captmidnite1962: But NEH has been great too!!
Shirean:
Chip: ...and drinking some cold Nukies...right Shirean?
chrisloeb: Sheryl Crow at The Budokan for example - Japan only, killer - much bette rthan the wordlwide Live record she released at a later stage
Toddzilla: There's something wrong with Christmas being only a month away, and yet I can walk outside and see kids in shorts and sandals playing while their fathers are mowing the lawn. It's just not right.
captmidnite1962: I hear that....
Shirean: Yes, got some in the fridge right now!
captmidnite1962: Pricy but great!
Chip: Good girl.
David: waiting on that Newcastle ice cream though!
David: That with Christmas Pudding would go down a treat!!
Toddzilla: You gonna have us all over to your inflatable pub, David? LOL
David: haha,,,, that would be cool to have, huh!
chrisloeb: kids in shorts..... It's been snowing for 8 hours here in Vienna, it's minus 2 degrees and it will be snowing for another five days through, as they say
Toddzilla: Trade ya!
captmidnite1962: I remember living in TX at Christmas..that was...different
David: Bye Lazy!
Shirean: I hear you Todd, its strange in N.CA we at least had pants and a sweater on by now. I'm wearing shorts today!
Chip: Bye Lazy
David: we even went to Daytona Beach earlier.....in late November...!!
Toddzilla: Well, I s'pose I should be on my way - we're off to see the Aussie Pink Floyd show.
captmidnite1962: OK....I have to run..see you all next month..same Funk channel!!
Toddzilla: See y'all around the site. And Happy Thanksgiving to those of you Stateside folks!
Shirean: Bye Todd - glad you could make it
chrisloeb: enjoy, Todd - I'll be seeing Porcupine Tree on Wednesday, can't wait
Toddzilla: Never heard PT...will have to check 'em out.
chrisloeb: Bye Captain, see you!
captmidnite1962: Take care everyone!!
Toddzilla: Ciao!
David: bye for now
Chip: Bye, for now...everyone. See ya next time.
David: Next
