Talking MSG's Learn To Burn

The segments included here are taken from a 1987 MTV Headbangers Ball broadcast that featured Robin McCauley and Michael Schenker of MSG hosting the show, in support of their debut album at the time, Perfect Timing.

It always cracked me up and recently got around to extracting it from an old VHS recording - so thought some of you might also find it hilarious!

Thanks

I remember watching that. I always thought it was annoying that he would not stop playing so you could hear what everyone else was saying. Watching that again, it STILL annoys me

Although I saw them play in Germany with Def Leppard in support of Perfect Timing and it was one of the best shows I have ever been to.

Funny, it does not seem all that long ago....

I just have to say that...

"...Michael Schenkah..."

...has always been an amazing talent, from his days with Scorpions to now. In fact...

"...Michael Schenkah..."

...is one of the true 80's European guitar gods, along with the likes of Gary Moore and the Iron Maiden tag team of Adrian Smith & Dave Murray. MSG, led by...

"...Michael Schenkah..."

...recorded some of the best of early 80's hard rock on their MSG and Assault Attack albums.

Cheers....Todd

Icon48 A night so long ago...

I am flashing back...thanks to you Todd...to a September night in 1995 down at the late, great Malibu Club in Lido Beach NY where a reformed UFO is playing. Michael had also just released his "Thank You" CD and he had a meet and greet on his own before the show; the entire band did their meet and greet after the concert.

I had Michael to autograph my copy of his CD and asked him some sort of technical question regarding the Flying V he was using that night. it may very well have been the one he sold on e-Bay a few years back for all I know....

I had my Jeff Beck shirt on that was being sold at JB's shows earlier that summer when he was touring with Santana. It is black with the pic of Jeff onstage and the Pete Frame JB Family Tree all around.....I do remember telling Alex Ligertwood;"You're on the back here...." As I walked down the receiving line after the show, Michael and Pete Way were seated next one another. Michael was saying to him; "Pete, Pete..look at his shirt!" Both musicians were quite impressed with the artwork. I still have that shirt and cherish it!!

This was before the days of the Internet for me and there was a hot-line you could call with the latest info..I was somewhat stuunned to hear that the band had broken up (again!) I was even going to fly out to CA in 1998 to see the show in Palo Alto (Flight benefits did have their perks!) which is subsequently where Michael had a tantrum and stormed off. They went to Japan and about 4 songs into a show at the Sun Plaza, he smashed his guitar and walked off, not to return..for a while anyway!!

But I won't dwell on that....I'll just crank up some classic MSG and revel in the tone and style that is "Michael Schenkah!"
