Lightbulb DUST 'from a dry camel'

Does anybody know where to purchase this on cd for less than amazon's $56.00? I have both DUST albums but would like to get them on compact disc.

Dust Reissues

Larry,

excellent thread!

both albums, Dust (1971) and Hard Attack (1972) have been reissued at least two times - I remember a one time reissue (probably only 2000 copies made) from German label Repertoire Records and another one from the now long defunct Canadian reissue label One Way Records, all out of print and hard to find.

I'm lucky to have the latter on One Way (found them many, many years ago at the local Virgin Megastore in the Sale section), both have a bonus track (alternative versions of one of the album tracks), not listed in the credits.

Try eBay - I'm sure they will turn up, and in the summer you have a better chance to get them at a lower price.

Actually I haven't listened to them in years - thanks for reminding me of them - excellent early Seventies Heavy Rock, totally overlooked!

Cheers,
Christian

Is this the same band described below?

"DUST frontman Ritchie Wise turned his hand to producing, and was responsible for co-producing the first Kiss album with Kenny Kerner.

After joining Stories in 1973, DUST bassist Kenny Aronson teamed up with Rick Derringer in the mid-70's. He later worked with HSAS and Billy Squier as well as a host of other acts as a session player.

Drummer Marc Bell would join the legendary New York punk act Ramones, under the pseudonym of Marky Ramone."

Thanks for posting a song by the group - good stuff!

Cheers...Todd

... exactly is, Todd.

Kerner and Wise already co-wrote most of the tracks on the Dust albums and also co-produced.
Last I heard of Aaronson was in Billy Idol's late Eighties touring band (then still with Steve Stevens).

Thought I'd post the song, since both CDs are out of print, and that was the one I remembered most.

"From A Dry Camel" from the "Dust" album was their trademark song, sort of epic - 9:49 long, this is, I guess, why Larry named the thread after it.

Cheers,
Christian

Larry -

I went to the web-site of one of my haunts when I lived near St. Louis. They have the first album in stock for $50.

Here's what they say about it on their site.

ArtistDUST
TitleDust
DescriptionHere are the last new copies of these left in the world (I am fairly certain). What a find -- this is the original CD (from 1968 or so) with the underground hit "From A Dry Camel" and with the very disgusting cover. These are imports on the Repertoire label (much better sound than the even older One Way label issues) that have been out of print for many years. We've been getting more money for used copies in the store. HURRY!!NO DISCOUNT!
GenreHard, Psychedelic
Price$49.99

The website is www.discconnection.com

Keep hitting those used CD stores Larry, hopefully you'll get lucky.

Chip

first album spotted on eBay

The Repertoire reissue of their first album can also be found at eBay at the moment, just follow this link here!

Oliver, the seller, is an excellent business partner - I have already bought from him a couple of times...

Watch out for competition (not from me though) and bid late!

Cheers,
Christian

Thats interesting Chip,I bought both lp's in St.louis, but it was at Vintage Vinyl. They were a great band, most people are unfamiliar with them, even classic rock Glenn Hughes fanatics like us.
I had never heard about bonus tracks,,wow,I just cant spend that much for a cd,damn I guess I will just tape the old vinyl.thanks for the ebay idea,i have been watching anybody that has never checked these guys out,I would suggest doing so,if you like classic '70's rock,,they are very original sounding............

At the dawn of the '70s, hard rock and early heavy metal were almost completely dominated by British innovators. Dust was one of the few American bands to try picking up the gauntlet, playing a progressive brand of proto-metal that was explicitly indebted to their British contemporaries. Formed around 1968, the group featured vocalist/guitarist Richie Wise and the teenaged rhythm section of bassist Kenny Aaronson (who also doubled on slide and steel guitars) and drummer Marc Bell; plus, Kenny Kerner served as the group's lyricist, manager, and producer. Dust released their self-titled debut album in 1971 on Neil Bogart's pre-Casablanca label Kama Sutra. The follow-up, 1972's Hard Attack, sharpened the band's edge and intensified the power of their approach; thus, it became the more sought-after of the pair by collectors interested in the roots of American metal. However, Dust would record only those two albums; Aaronson joined Stories in 1973, and Wise and Kerner became a production team, also working with Stories; the following year, they would go on to helm the first two Kiss albums. Aaronson, meanwhile, became a prolific session bassist and Bell later became part of the New York punk scene, joining up with Richard Hell & the Voidoids and then moving on to the Ramones (adopting the name Marky Ramone).

Larry,
With all the info you've gotten already I guess I am a bit late.
Bananas Music in St. Pete, FL is "The World's Largest Music Store", and I have bought hundreds of OOP vinyl and CDs there in the past. They have an online catalogue, but in the area of a million items in each of their warehouses. I pack a lunch and three Credit Cards when I go for the day. You can have them find just about anything for you, including 78 RPMs.
You can go to http://www.musicfinder.com
