High Funk in Zoetermeer

short review Glenn Hughes & Chad Smith; june 12th, Zoetermeer 'Sweetlake' (near The Hague), Holland.

My ears are still ringing after the Glenn 'n' Chad show. Not only it was loud, but the guys played 2-and-a-half hours. Starting at 21.00 hrs, closing the set around 23.30 hrs with Stormbringer and Burn

Setlist will probably appear here, but they played a lot of songs from Soul Mover, some Purple stuff and a lot of covers: Higher ground (Stevie Wonder), American Woman (Guess Who/Lenny Kravitz), Stone Free (Hendrix), Sunshine of your love (Cream).

The concert was not tight, probably due to the light & fun atmosphere in the band. JJ Marsh, although good, had a hard time 'competing' for sonic audibility with the great Chad and big Daddy.

Chad is one helluva drummer and certainly gives Glenn's concert a new drive...and a younger audience.

oh..chad also showed his butt...not sure if it made us happy

Glenn mentioned he would 'be back' in November with Tony, and if we would see Geezer, Ozzy, Bill & Tony during the Sab shows we should give them a little kiss on their botties.

Great show, lots of fun & jokes, good music, what more could we want??

Yes ..the show in Zoetermeer was realy fantastic!! I have seen Papa in some shows now, but this was the best ever for me. I came from Norway to see them.

Glenn & Co. had great fun on stage and audience got even more than they aspected.. I don’t have the setlist but i have som pictures that i hope you like.

As for the last half hour at the show in Arrow and also at the end of Zoetermeer the sound got to high (porridge) as mentioned and i think that mabye Glenn should live that to his technicians as the sound was perfect at beginning in both places. (Also expirienced in earlier shows.) It is great when the music beats load into your body, but I like it to be clear..

Not easy to tell what Glenn shuld play on his shows (and this show was realy great) but I personaly think his solo music is so good that he don’t have to play any Purple stuff at all (..not saying it is bad). I saw the younger part of the audience had a great time when he was playing things from Soul Mover... and I was hoping for myself to hear things like “Change Yourself”, “Let it Go” an “Isolation” that are among my favourites. He played “Don’t let mee bleed” then..

Well... just some few days until “I go insane”..

Hi everyone,

It was my first time to see Glenn live and the show was amazing I definately go to see him again if I have the possibility!
I'm a Chili fan for 15 years and it was great to see Chad play with Glenn, but it was also scared to see how much fun they had on the stage and they really rocked!
I never saw Chad play like that and that worries me a little, we don't want to loose him playing with the Chilis

After the show Glenn and Chad came to the audience for autographs, taking pictures and to talk to the fans.
Glenn and Chad thanks so much for taking the time to do that, you made a lot of people very happy
at least you made my day

I also took a lot of pics, but I have to sort them out.
I will post them as soon as possible!

..ha that reminds me, I bought the RHCP album Freaky Styly (sp?) when it first came out.....no Chad then i think.....lost the album along the way.....wasn't there a track called Catholic School Girls Rule on it somewhere?.........was my favourite track

Hi Hans,

You're right - Glenn used a Fodera bass. In combination with the
great 'green goblin' sound effects I must say it sounded pretty scary!

You're right, Glenns new Bass is a Fodera. It's the Victor Wooten Ying/Yang Model with some slight changes to it.
Glenn's has an ebony fretboard instead of the maple and active EMG Pickups in it. It rules!!

I have enjoyed the shows in Lichtenvoorde (arrow) and Zoetermeer. In Zoetermeer I've made some pictures and a few short films. (3 of Mistreated). If someone would like to have this pictures or films please give me your emailadress and i will send it through yousendit.

By the way the concerts were fantastic despite the mistakes of Burn and the fact that Uncle Glenn missed twice a 'scream' but who am i to complain i've had a fantastic show of 2.5 hours with good music and entertainment

Now the shows in november with both my uncles namely Glenn and Tony But first 11-10-2005 Dream Theater in Amsterdam.

I'm the friend of Silverhair (on the pic with Glenn) and I most admit I never heard of Glenn before last week (sorry) but now I know who he is! I really had a great time last week, and I'm telling my story on my Peppers-website. But Higher Ground IS a Stevie Wonder track....that reminds me...i once went to a Vandenberg concert way back in 82 with a girlfriend who was well endowed...say no more...

At first we didn't manage to get in front...but after she took off her jacket Bert Heerink noticed her...we spent the rest of the concert on the first row....

i still have my Vandenberg albums, but dumped the girlfriend on the way...wonder how she makes ends meet these days
