Icon34 Kerrang - BTM Review

Short and sweet but yet another good review for BTM.

Building The Machine

Rating: K K K K
Reviewed: September 2001
Genre: Hard Rock
Label: SPV
Key tracks: Can't Stop The Flood, Inside, When You Fall

Blues with colour from a vintage voice

They don't call ex-Deep Purple/Trapeze vocalist Glenn Hughes The Voice of Rock for nothing. He can do everything with his chords bar stick the kettle on, yet hasn't always had equally dazzling backing tracks to do them justice.

This time out, he's returning to his preferred blues/soul/funk persuasions with skillful session men and star guests (notably Pat Travers and Bobby Toto Kimball), and even if you're not a great lover of the aforementioned sonic stylings, BTM will stir your soul. From the dirt-kickin' strut of opener Can't Stop The Flood to cool breeze ballad Big Sky, Hughes clearly remains a gargantuan crooner in his advancing years. Long may his pipes reign.
