Icon47 Liesegang - No Strings Attached

Billy Liesegang presents us with his guitar orientated solo album. There are 16 tracks, 9 of which are instrumentals and 7 vocal numbers of which Glenn does lead vocals on 3.

Glenn performs on:

King Of The Western World

A great rocking number, the melody of which sounds like it's been lifted off Glenn's aborted '91 studio album. Good, frantic guitar break in the middle.

Cryin' For Love

The beginning is reminiscent of Hendrix's 'Little Wing', then into the main riff with Glenn soon opening the vocals up into that big sound. Strong, emotional type chorus.

The Night Will Soon Be Gone

Nice intro, with acoustic sounding guitar. Heartfelt ballad type verses with strong commercial choruses. Great vocals.

Overall, not a fantastic record, ordinarily would not need to be purchased by a GH fan - so although Glenn is in fine form as per ususal, a "thumbs down" for the album as a whole.

No Strings Attached

Being partial to guitar based instrumental rock, I found it easier to look past the obvious shortcomings of this record, and found more to enjoy here than in Live and Learn. Since I bought both cds at the same time, and getting new Glenn things does such a good job of 'marking the times' so to speak, the two will always be linked for me. Again, the Hughes tunes stand above the rest of the record, with the Tony Thurlow vocals not belonging anywhere on a disc with Glenn. Compared to Nikolo Kotsev, Liesegang plays with a more mature sound and approach to the songs. Kotsev has chops, Liesegang has a feel for the song. Even with the positive review, I think I agree with David, however, 'for the die hard only'.

Glen ,contributed 3 tracks to this album in 1996;

King of the western World,

The night will soon be gone

I m quite llucky to have a copy as my friend John Sharp played keyboards on some tracks.

I must says his vocals are clear & his range is excellent what else would you expect

Yeah, I also got a copy of this album. I converted it to my iPod two days ago. Glenn did a lot of projects over the years and this is one of those projects I haven't heard in a long time.

I think it was re-released not to long ago....

Did you friend John Sharp share any memories about Glenn and the recording process?

The original (German) release is on MANIFEST (cat.no. MT-327), (P)+(C) Liesegang recordings 1996 and was distributed by semaphore, a German distributor.

The material is published by/licensed from Horgi Musikverlag (Germany).

The reissue has different artwork and is on Escape Music.

Cheers,
Christian
