M3

Tony Martin, one time Black Sabbath singer, is to join forces with three former Whitesnake members in a new band called M3.

The musicians in question are Bernie Marsden and Mickey Moody (Guitars) plus Neil Murray (Bass).

Tour dates are to be announced soon.

This line-up sounds interesting - wonder what material they'll play, if not originals?

That would be totally cool....I always preferred the Moody-Marsden era of Whitesnake as opposed to the more successful late 80's version of the band. Bernie and Micky are two kindred spirits that have pursued a satisfying partnership long after their Whitesnake days. I loved the Moody Marsden CD's that I was able to dig up.

Bernie has always impressed me as a classy playerand an underrated one to boot. And Micky with his blues sensibilities complements him perfectly. Two long time mates..thick as thieves...and a history to be proud of!

Neil Murray has always been one of my favorite bassists and has played with a dizzying spectrum of musicians and styles ranging from heavy metal to jazz fusion. One of the unsung bass heroes!

I do remember hearing Tony Martin sing on several Black Sabbath CD'ds and was duly impressed....I am curious as to what this will sound like! I will definitely keep my ear to the ground for this!

If it's to be Marsden, Moody, Murray & Martin...why not M4?

Cheers..Todd

Guess, they hadn't thought that through...but if the motorway theme is what they were thinking...it still works

I guess that means they'll play "driving rock"....?

Tony Martin is excellent. He knocked out some belting tunes for Sabbath (I know I'm in the minority but Eternal Idol remains one of my fave Sabbath albums) and if you haven't heard Tony deliver "Stormbringer" from Dario Mollo's The Cage check it out.

Tony did some shows credited to Cozy Powell and Friends some time ago and Neil Murray played in that band with him. Tony had a rather varied set to handle, featuring Whitesnake stuff like "Crying In the Rain", Rainbow classics like "Since You've Been Gone" and "Stargazer" and a load of Sabbath stuff, plus Cozy's and his own solo material. I have to say he belted them all out with great style.

I still think the best Marsden/Moody work after Whitesnake remains "Once Bitten", credited to The Snakes. The mighty Jorn Lande does a superb job in the Coverdale vein while still retaining the Lande trademarks, and the songwriting, especially Bernie's, is of a particularly high standard. Almost all of the album consequently was rehashed to become the Comapny Of Snakes "Burst The Bubble".

On paper, it's a great band. I'll look forward to hearing more.

I guess that the lawyers would have gone crazy, if they named the new band either: "White Sabbath" or "Black Snake".......

Hmmmm......the only one i can think of is Jeff Martin, drummer for Paul Gilbert and Racer X too I think. So that gives us Marsden, Moody, Murray, Martin and Martin!

People would probably throw the (American)
candy at them, if they called themselves....
"The m&m's".

(Sorry, I couldn't resist the bad pun.)

Just when you thought this topic was dead and buried, here I am resurrecting it. The set lists from one of the M3 shows was all old / "classic" Whitesnake, as follows......

Walking In The Shadow Of The Blues
Don't Break My Heart Again
Trouble
Ready and Willing
Lonely Days Lonely Nights
Lovehunter
Crying In The Rain
Child of Babylon
Slow and Easy (tribute to Cozy Powell)
Ain't no love in the heart of the city
Would I lie to you
Fool for your loving
Here I go again
Take me With You

So they look to be another Company Of Snakes really. I'd go and see them though...I've heard Tony do some of these before and he does a fine job. Nice to see plenty of "Come And Get It" in there, a much under-rated album in my book.

They make no bones about what they're all about...the name of their new web site says it all!!

www.classicwhitesnake.com

If anyone goes to see this revised line-up, do let me know how it is "live" - I'm curious

Oh aye David, that's probably a bit of a give away LOL!!!

To be fair to myself I didn't know or had forgotten that URL & certainly hadn't visited the site!

I'll go see 'em if they play Leeds, but they're more likely to play Bradford. I don't know if I'd even travel the few miles to Bradford....
