Talking Screamadelia -or- let's have a little fun!

Hi all!
Fellow board member Axterl and myself have thought of a fun topic: Best and worst screams.
We have thought of a couple, and you're very welcome to contribute yourselves!

Starting off with a soundbyte from Gary Moore's "Dirty Fingers" LP. The track is "Hiroshima" and the screamer is Charlie Huhn. Enjoy!

More to come!

oh, I don't want to know....

Here's another one. It's good old Ian Gillan this time, from a Live Version of "My Baby Loves Me", Tokyo 1977. Good one. Watch out for more from Axterl and myself.

Cheers, Chris

Charlie Huhn.....whatever happened to him?

Well, here's my contribution. It's one of rock musics quieter people, Brian May from Queen, on a solo tour. I'm not sure what possessed him to do this....his voice is hardly that of Sebastian Bach, but he lets rip with, quite frankly, an atrocious scream. In Brian's defence, he's a guitarist first and a singer second. Still, top marks for trying Brian, I still think you're great!

Hello James,
yes, Brian May is a great guitarist, but you're right wondering what possessed him to do this...
The last time I heard about Charlie Huhn was, when a friend lend me a CD by German Sports-Guitarist Axel Rudi Pell whose singer Huhn was. No idea what happened to the guy.
More files to come, stay tuned!

Ian certainly gets the screamadelia award, though Axl Rose would surely be fighting for the honour? Our Glenn can bring a good scream up from his toes when he feels like it, too ...

Hi Shirl,

Ian's screams are certainly classic and, well, we all know about Glenn's...

Here's the Artist Formerly Known As Prince, who's now officially Prince again.
This is from a track called "Endorphine Machine" from the Gold Experience Album.

Beware...

Chris

P.S. C'mon, Axterl, where's the scream you promised to contribute, you know which one I mean!

Here it is! One of my favourites. Corey Glover from Living Colour. This one's taken from the dread album, their most known song "Cult of Personality". Anybody got an idea what's Corey doin' now?

Here's another one from Corey Glover. The Album was "Biscuits" and they're covering "Should I Stay Or Should I Go".

To be honest, I've not listened to much Prince aside from what get played on the radio and I was impressed he could knock out such a scream....although he ended up going a little over the top.

As I mentioned him in my Brian May post, here's a belter from one of rocks greatest wailers, Seb Bach, from his solo live album.

And here's an uncharacteristically high corker from one of my personal heroes, Eric Martin from Mr Big. Dig it!

Obviously, if were were including Glenn here, I'd say his "She makes you burn with a wave of her haaa-aand!" in the last verse on Burning Japan, and the little gem he delivers in "Hold Out Your Life" on Hughes/Thrall.

Wow, Eric Martin's scream's extremely high-pitched Excellent!

So, we've had some very good ones. Here's a rather embarassing scream taken from Gary Moore's "Live in Japan" Album. John Sloman: power failure. The track is "Nuclear Attack".

The Prince scream on "Endorphine Machine" is one of my all-time favorites. In fact, the whole "Gold Experience" cd is one of his best.

Funny you guys should mention Corey Glover, because I was just listening to his solo album (released about 4 years ago, I think) and was thinking that many of the Hughes fans on this board might like it. It has a wide-range of styles, from R&b to hard rock, but does not sound at all like Living Color. It is a really cool cd - Glenn would sound great singing it.

Those are my cd recommendations for the week.

At last - someonelse who has Cory Glover's Hymns CD. It is awesome and would certainly appeal to fellow GH fans. A cool mix of rock, soul, funk. Pity he did nt release a second one. It is far better than any Living Colour stuff (first Cd excepted!).

Chris,

The Jon Slowman "scream" was superb! My brother and I howled with laughter at that one.

As we're back to really bad screams, heres some more howling from the great David Coverdale. This is taken from a Stuttgart show on the Restless Heart tour and Coverdale forgot to pack his voice for the trip.....attached is a minutes worth of the most horrible version of "Still Of The Night" I've ever encountered, resplendent with a hideous shriek at the end. It's one of the few nights where I could whip David's ass vocally....download if you dare!

Goodness me - this is really bad! Thank you, James.

As for my next contribution, I'm not sure if it's good, bad or just damn funny. Anyway - Billy Idol does all kinds of animal sounds on this, a tiger and monkeys mainly. Funny. It's from the rare vinyl-only B-Side of his 1988 "Mony, Mony" Live Version, his version of the classic "Shakin' All Over". And Steve Stevens is, of course, playing guitar

Mr. Spencer, I totally agree with your Corey Glover assessment. I am not a big fan of Living Color, but love the "Hymns" cd. It is a very well written album.

Hi John L and Chris Spencer!
The "Hymns" CD is excellent. Before yesterday I hadn't listened to it in an eternity... Your postings actually brought me to another idea for a New Topic (at least, I hope it's new...), which you'll find in the Off Topic Section again. Name any MUST-HAVE (non- Glenn Hughes related) Albums for THE GLENN HUGHES FAN. "Gold Experience" and "Hymns" are there. Looking forward to contributions!
Cheers, Chris

The best scream on an intro has gotta be on Space Station No.5 on the Montrose album - Montrose. A Blistering riff i'm sure you'll all agree.

Yeah, too right! A belter from Sammy, and he can do it live.
Montrose....what a great album. One of the best debut albums EVER, if not the best. Sheer quality from start to finish.

hmm, don't know it - can somebody post this scream, please!!!

In the meantime, here's another scream from Ian Gillan. It's from "Gethsemane" on the original recording of Jesus Christ Superstar. On the same Album there would be a dozen more from Ian and from Murray Head, who sang Judas...

Well, here you go Chris, and anybody else unfamiliar with Montrose. Here's the intro scream to "Space Station No 5" when Sammys voice was raw rock and roll, and then as it fades out theres a second clip of Sammy's excelent high pitched scream on "5150" from the album of the same name he recorded with Van Halen when he was a more polished vocalist. Both great in my opinion!

Ann Wilson of Heart is still belting them out as she always has and I can't wait to see her and the rest of the band on tour this Summer.

I would say the intro scream in the song "Fairy King" by Queen on the first album would be the purest scream and is more refined than most.

Hi all,
Screamadelia continues - there are still tons of good, bad & ugly or just funny screams out there...

Here's a vintage scream from 1971. It's Ashley Holt (long time vocalist with Rick Wakeman) of Warhorse on a Beat Club Live-Version of the track "Ritual".

Stay tuned for more.

Hi,
another scream, this time from the 80s: Marc Storace of Swiss Heavy Metal Band Krokus (Marc is from Malta though). Remember Manfred Ehlert's Amen Album? Things have certainly changed between Krokus and Amen. Listen to these screams, and you know what I mean.

Wish, I could have been in Orlando...

Cheers,
Chris

P.S. Come on guys, where are your screams!?

Thanks, David - Steve Marriott had this unbelievable voice. Actually I have been thinking of posting a couple of his acrobat-vocal shots from the King Biscuit Live CD, so maybe I'll go ahead then sometime. Scremadelia is endless.

Here's another fun contribution from a band called Green Jelly. They had a hit bout 10 years ago with "3 Little Pigs". These screams are from their song "Obey the Cowgod". Fun, fun, fun. Enjoy!

Hi all,

Thought I'd bring this thread back...

I've found an unbelievable scream from Doug Pinnick of King's X on the Influences & Connections: Mr. Big Album. Here it is - a killer!!! Go out, get this Album (you know, Glenn's on it too!) and be sure to collect some of King's X aswell on the way
