Icon33 1974 US Radio Interview

Here you'll find the edited version of a long lost classic radio interview by legendary USA radio broadcaster, Don Imus of the WNBC network - featuring both Glenn and Jon Lord in November 1974, promoting the second MK III album release, Stormbringer.

We'll put the entire broadcast on the site, in the Studio Pix & Reports section, within the next few days.

Enjoy

Great stuff, thanks. It's so good to hear Glenn speak of Paul Rodgers as he does, even back then. Really liked hearing You Can't Do It Right (With The One You Love) again, it's been a while, will have to put Stormbringer on the CD player.....right now!

Just downloaded the interview - great, thanks. One of the sound clips sounds like Steve Perry - surely not?

Where DID you get this from David? You keep delivering these goodies to us ...

Yes, this was a real find...a friend of ours on the East Coast found it in a local estate sale...turns out the estate belonged to a veteran radio sound engineer and it was buried deep down at the bottom of huge stack of reel-to-reel tapes...it was simply marked with SRS-DP-NOV74...it was marked as $5, and so they took a chance and grabbed it for us!

Once we finally got hold of it, you can just imagine our faces when we first heard "Glenn Hughes" being introduced....you don't come across too many like this!

Since then, we've been hunting down anyother similar interviews from that time, but no luck so far...no doubt they're out there collecting dust...just hope we or others, can find some more

... and of course it wasn't Steve Perry, it was the Righteous Brothers.

I've sent myself to the back of the class for lack of concentration!

Excellent interview. One of two former members of DP that have played the Whisky in LA. Hughes with Trapeze; Bolin with Zepher.

Really cool to see you make this stuff available. Thx again. You do Mr. Hughes proud.

Hey David,

I listened to that whole program...what a blast! Not only was the interview a real treat, but hearing all the commercials of the period was a mind bender. And the Rufus and Righteous Brothers tunes were great as well. it is also amusing to hear Don Imus and reflect on the fact that he was almost seen as controversial in his day.

Yours In The Funk,

Bill Redford

First time over the decades I heard that it was a member or members of a rival casino group who shot the flare gun into the ceiling. Good to finally know the motivation behind this famous story.
