Icon23 Soul Mover - 59th Best Song of Noughties

As you all know, Classic Rock love doing lists of 100 Greatest whatevers.

They recently listed the Greatest Rock Songs of The Noughties.

At number 59 was Soul Mover.

59. Soul Mover – Glenn Hughes

From the 2005 album Soul Mover. The Voice Of Rock continues to astound with that truly incredible vocal range, here taking in soul on a song that abounds with showboatin’ style.

Number 1 was, incredibly..... No i wont tell you as i cant believe their choice - but i own the album it's on!

Here's the link to the page with Soul Mover on

That is actually pretty impressive. Of course we know it is better than the ranking, but I'd still say that is darn good news for Glenn

There are a couple of links on there too where Classic Rock are specualting this new Supergroup too!!!!

Looking at the list there are definitley a few songs on there I would place Soul Mover before, including the song that made no 1 (I simply don't believe that was deemed best rock song of the noughties) but yes great news for there to be recognition for Glenn in this chart!

Yeah, I've got that album too
You gotta give the song kudos though, really!
Great riff, great chorus, great performance, great production, great video.
Do you remember any song with a decent guitar solo (and a second one too) topping the charts in __ years!? I don't!
It really worked, and it brought ROCK (in capital letters) back into the spotlight. And it certainly helped Thin Lizzy step out of the limelight nearer to the top of the Rock Olymp where they belong.

Same here....got the album.
I too was a little shocked considering it was voted the best song in a period of ten years...it is a good commercial track though.

I watched a documentary which followed them before they "made it big"...just normal band playing small clubs etc. There's quite a funny bit when they hired a van for their gig only to fuel it up with diesel instead of petrol!!!!! ...with time running out they had to phone around to get another van and eventually managed to get a small one from a friend.Too small.... some of the band had to travel to the gig with the film crew.
They're not Spinal Tap or Bad News.

Cheers....

Pete

ps Happy New Year

Terrible list, I expected more from Classic Rock

Good to see Whitesnake made the list though but I expected a little better. Also, most of the choices are way too obvious, there are a lot of rather obscure artists who've released some fantastic songs during the last few years.

Which No.1 song are we talking about? I tried to follow the links after the Soul Mover entry but gave up. Now that we have to consider ourselves reprimanded by their big brass over the Voice of Rock issue , I will keep my mouth shut. But I still don't personally bother with their league tables.

Soul Mover was my fave song of the Noughties bar none.

yeah Keith, their website is slow and cumbersome and links are badly placed or not relevant.

Here's Number 1

from this page you can follow the links from 2 - 50.

Wow, I have that album too! Good song, don't know if it's worth the #1 ranking, but a damn fine song. Of course Glenn should have been higher, but nice to see him on the list.
Thanks for posting!

Hmm...I don't get it. SMover is a great song and I play it at the gym a lot, but above anything (like Written Alll Over Your Face on SITKOR or his true best song Angela to me is insane. But of course these polls are bloody rubbish anyway as I have and will continue to say.
