Icon27 CALIFORNIA JAM BOOK is coming this year!

Later this year on Rufus Stone limited editions a brand new California Jam book is coming. 300 pages with hundreds of black and white and coloured photos. A must have for the Deep Purple Mk III fans

Hoj Willem,

the book will be printed by the same publishers who are responsible for the WS book.
I'm afraid it will be very impressive in the price as well

Good news Lioness, from what i've read they will have a more affordable version also (paperback?) in the works
That would be my choice.

Of course a paperback is a more affordable version. But if it's anything near the photobook of Didi Zill , the deluxe version will be a better choice.

@ tmc

If I were you, I would instead start putting money into my savings account, because wishes not always come true...

I guess that most of you got the first newsletter today. For those who haven't, I post it here.
The last paragraph makes me sad again...

Quote:
The Deep Purple California Jam Photo Biography: Newsletter One
Dear Yvonne,

Firstly our thanks to everyone who has requested updates on this forthcoming title. Word about the book seemed to reverberate through Deep Purple fandom in next to no time. The general opinion seems to be that the band have not been particularly well served in terms of photographic collections, so Rufus Stone will do our best to rectify this (although one fan's suggestion that we have a book for every tour is perhaps a long-term plan at best!).

And as we're talking photographs, to the purpose of this newsletter - which is to tell everyone that rock photographer Robert Ellis has opened his considerable archive for the project. Robert worked as a freelancer for many of the music papers in the seventies and was one of the few British photographers covering the California Jam festival in 1974.

Happily Robert kept his black and white shots and in recent years many of his colour images of the band at the Jam were rescued from the vaults of a record company.

A handful of his photographs appeared in the Melody Maker at the time. Others were on later CD and DVD releases of Deep Purple's performance. However this is the first time most of his material has ever been seen. It includes images from throughout the performance as well a dramatic scenes of the famous guitar demotion. We are also negotiating with other photographers and will announce more details shortly.

Rufus Stone are also pleased to announce the involvement of Simon Robinson with the project (following his work on our Whitesnake Definitive Biography). Simon's work with the band's archives over the years needs no introduction here and he has put together a lengthy day by day text detailing the chronology of the event from the promoters first discussions through to the fall-out from Blackmore's performance. The book will run out at around 300 pages, in hard back covers and album size. Two trial pages can be seen above. There will be a number of editions available, starting with a standard, affordable softback packaged in a special Rufus Stone way. A more specialised edition will hopefully include a special gatefold vinyl pressing of the band's performance in glorious, heavy duty purple vinyl. More information on these editions will be available in our next newsletter.

A special word about Jon Lord

In closing this newsletter though, we would like to add our thoughts to those of fans everywhere on the sudden death of Jon Lord just a couple of weeks ago. Rufus Stone had been talking to Jon and his manager earlier this year about the possibility of a Jon Lord book and were looking forward to working with him. We can at least be thankful for the magnificent musical legacy across both the rock and classical fields which he has bequeathed us.

For more information visit www.caljambook.co.uk

The Rufus Stone Team

I had so hoped that Jon would write his autobiography. And that he would have enough time to do so. It wasn't meant to be

I received all three editions of the California Jam book at the end of January 2013. In fact I helped write it, and provided documentation and photos in the book. Here is a link to a sneak-peek of the book on my californiajamfanclub on FB:

Thank you Allen for all the work you put into this project I always thought a concert of this magnitude deserved to be preserved along side the likes of Woodstock and Isle of Man. Sure wish i could have been there! Was eighteen at the time.
