Chad Smith Giving the UK His Meatbats

Quote:
earMUSIC Records today announced the debut CD release of Chad Smith's new solo venture 'Chad Smith's Bombastic Meatbats'.

Already hailed as one of the most compelling and unpredictable instrumental bands in years, their debut album, 'Meet The Meatbats', is released in the UK on Monday, October 12th.

Formed by Chad Smith, legendary drummer of the 'Red Hot Chili Peppers' and, more recently, of rock supergroup 'Chickenfoot', the remaining members of the Meatbats includes guitarist Jeff Kollman (Glenn Hughes), bassist Kevin Chown (Ted Nugent) and keyboardist Ed Roth (Glenn Hughes).

I hope it will be available in the rest of Europe too. The playing on the myspace tracks is pretty insane.

Really impressed with what I've heard till now. Not just Chad and Jeff, but especially Ed Roth delivers some stunning performances it seems. Anyway, I pre-ordered my copy today, can't wait.

Not a full blown review, but certainly a disc any fan of the players involved should pick up.

Personal faves include, "The Battle for Ventura Blvd.", "Tops Off", "Death Match", "Into The Floyd" and the live bonus (depending which territory you're in) and one cover tune, "Stratus".

If you're fan of Jeff Beck, David Gilmour, and aren't familiar with Jeff's style, then again, it's worth tracking down.

No vocals here, all instrumentals. Jam fans will love it!

Chad, Ed and Jeff are on outstanding form and Kevin Chown's laid back style fits this perfectly. Look forward to the follow-up and the live release, which are already completed by all accounts. No doubt they'll see the light of day next year sometime.

In summary, go get it

had this bad boy the day it was released. Its a funkfusion explosion.
it has moments of Blow By Blow, where Jeff's tone takes over where Beck left off and Ed's funky playing rivals Jan Hammer. Chad's in a great place with this material as he can go with the funk flow, as well as turn on his bombastic chops at a drop of a hat. Kevin's playing is stellar and he meshes with his funk brothers who all know each others next move.
A landmark debut.

I guess that this is a good thread for this question. I'm calling on you geeks out there for this one (yes Bill, we know who you are ). Anyway, I just bought my new copy of the Bombastic Meatbats cd, "Meet the Meatbats". I took my cd and put it in my computer and then, put it on my i-tunes list. I have twice now synced my i-pod and that cd doesn't appear to be transfering onto my i-pod from my i-tunes list. It is listed in my i-tunes list on my computer. Anyone have any ideas as to why this would (not) be happening for me?
thanks and peace,

Hey Bart - you need to first import into iTunes, the tracks from the CD and then you need to create a Playlist. From there, copy the newly imported tunes to that Playlist, then tell iTunes to include that Playlist, when syncing with your iPod etc. Simply importing the songs into iTunes doesn't automatically setup the syncing; it just allows you to play them from within iTunes without the need for the CD. You need to sync via a Playlist... at least that's my understanding

i apreciate your attempt to help me David, but it still doesn't make sense to me. I have 24,000 songs on my i-pod that have all been done the same way. I just put the cd in my computer, it puts the music on my i-tunes list and the next time that I plug my i-pod in, it puts all of the songs on my i-pod. i've never done the create a playlist thing, at least not for that reason, only for making cds for my friends. I'm wondering if anyone knows why this cd specifically seems different from the other couple of thousand cds that i've done before. does this cd have some kind of incoding that prevents it from going onto my i-pod? I wonder how often Chad checks up on this site now-a-days ? I'd like to get his take on that.
peace,

Well, I'm now just gonna file this under the "more I know, the less I understand" catagory. As it turns out, I still cannot find the Meatbats (Bombastic) listed anywhere in my "artist" section, which is how I always search my i-pod. Finally, when I searched under album names instead, I found "Meet the Meatbats" listed. So, it is there, but the actual "group" is not. I love modern technology, I just don't understand it a lot of times. I'm not even sure that anyone would have a good answer for that one. Maybe one day I'll scroll through every artist and find it listed as something really off the wall. Thanks for your efforts of help anyway.
peace,

Under "Artist" you should find it listed as "Chad Smith's Bombastic Meatbats", perhaps that's why you were having trouble...

Interesting dilemma Bart. I feel for you though, as I'm not a computer wiz myself. I operate my iTunes just like you and Wolfy do, whenever I plug in the iPod it updates it with any albums I've imported to iTunes since the last time it was plugged in. No playlists involved.

I sometimes change the name of artists so I can group them all together in one artist on my list. Such as changing my Frank Marino solo CDs to Mahogany Rush....Hughes/Thrall I changed to Glenn Hughes...etc. Maybe by changing the artist name, it will show up in your artists list.

The only weird thing I've experienced is importing Rory Gallagher's album Stage Struck. It shows up as three different albums, each 'album' having just a few tracks of the whole album. I tried importing it several times with the same results each time. There must be something wrong with the actual CD that makes it read like three different CDs.

I've had it for a week now. It's definitely enjoyable. Some great playing from Kollman and the rest of the band is amazing as well. It reminds me of Jeff Beck in the 70s, just like they said it sounded. Kollman is a very versatile guitarist, I really need to get some more of his stuff.
