Anyone remember Dreamboat Annie? Well Heart has been asked to film a DVD of their first and debut album, "Dreamboat Annie", track by track, next month at the Orpheum Theatre in LA.

Guess who will be at the taping, "ME"!!! I can't wait!!!

Cheers,
Shirean

P.S. Wouldn't it be cool if Glenn did something like this with Purple one day?

That does sound good! I love Heart - I saw them live at Wembley a good few years ago - they were stunning and her voice is incredible!

Enjoy!

I recently added Little Queen and Heart (Studio/Live 1981 album), both on vinyl, to my collection and keep discovering their qualities, especially in the vocals-section, of course!
The acrobatics on the live tracks are very Glenn Hughes-ish and Steve Marriott-ish.
Dreamboat Annie was the first Heart album I got a couple of years back, and it's absolutely wonderful.
Always reminds me of Led Zeppelin tracks like The Battle Of Evermore and the acoustic/electric side of Zep generally.
So should I buy any of their 80s albums too?
I got a loose disc (without artwork) of Bad Animals that a friend gave me last year.
Also there's an acoustic album out there that I read about, but that seems to be hard to get hold of, is it?

Cheers,
Christian

I did a Heart tribute gig with Dog N Butterfly in 2005 in downtown LA and I've always liked them. I really enjoyed getting familiar with the material again, which I've messed with on my own and in bands before. Heart are one of my influences and Ann is vocally an influence too. I could definitely see the soul connection that Ann has to Glenn, great stuff. The Wilson sisters have recently acknowledged Dog n Butterfly, that is great to see.

That was a cool note from the Wilson's. What do you play, John?

Icon19 Coast To Coast

I just got back from LA where I witnessed the most incredible evening with Heart performing their 1976 debut album, "Dreamboat Annie", in it's entirety, with a full blown orchestra accompanying them.

It was hosted and filmed in high definition (HD) by USA satellite TV company, Direct TV, for a new music series of programs they're producing called, "Legends Live" - this show and gig will get it's network premiere on Mother's Day weekend (May 12th/13th, 2007). Be sure and tune-in, as you should see me, 'cuz the camera was right in front of me! (A DVD release of the show will also follow later in the year).

I was lucky enough to get front row seats for the show - I couldn't believe my luck - the Heart camp came through once again

The Orpheum Theater in downtown is gorgeous and very intimate - Heart filmed the "Alone" video there in the 80's (as did Gary Moore and others around that same time).

After they completed taping the Dreamboat Annie segment, they gave us even more...

Here's the set list:

Magic Man
Dreamboat Annie (Fantasy Child)
Crazy On You
Soul Of The Sea
Dreamboat Annie
White Lightning & Wine
I'll Be Your Song, (Love Me Like The Music)
Sing Child
How Deep It Goes
Dreamboat Annie (Reprise)
Mistral Wind

Encore:
Goodbye Blue Sky (Pink Floyd)
Black Dog (Led Zeppelin)
Misty Mountain Hop (Led Zeppelin)
Love Reign O'er Me (The Who)

Heart had a lot of special guests in the audience, of those I spotted Cameron Crowe (Mr. Nancy Wilson ), Rosanna Arquette, Jerry Cantrell and Mike Inez of Alice In Chains, Gilby Clarke (ex-G'N'R and Heart!).

I had a great time, my throat still hurts from screaming so much

Cheers,
Shirean

Memories of high school....

I worked in a wine and cheese restaurant called The Pawnbroker in Baldwin during my junior year in high school. I washed dishes and drank untold bottles of beer..and there was always music playing over the speakers; they had a cassette deck and amplifier. One of the tapes they played over and over on those long ago Friday and Saturday nights was Dreamboat Annie.

Years later, when listening to the Zephyr tracks on The Ultimate Tommy Bolin, I always thought that Candy Givens laid the ground for the assertive female rock singer, she was the diamond in the rough..but Ann Wilson polished that diamondinto a stellar career.
That is so cool that you got to experience the night first hand...bet you won't forget it Shirean!!

Holy mackerel, I thought Candy Givens was abyssmal...

Ann Wilson's voice is sublime, on the other hand.

On a related and somewhat unfortunate note, did anyone catch VH1 Classic's Women Who Rock special, hosted by Ann? She looked terrible, for one thing, and very uncomfortable. They should have had her just talk instead of reading the teleprompter.
