I copied a bit from a recent interview, press release and also added a bit of information surrounding brother Tommy's passing in an attempt to share some facts, music and hopefully a bit of inspiration.
"I started playing a song on the acoustic guitar. I realized as I was playing, I was writing it for my brother Tommy. I was wondering when and if it would ever come. I woke up and there it was.
Cellist Phillip Peterson just recorded the most beautiful part last week making this song complete".
Tommy Kollman, the brother of Jeff Kollman and former drummer for 90's metal band Edwin Dare had passed away Dec 15th, 2012 after he was shot by a Lee county Florida deputy multiple times. The deputy fired 15 shots. There were no witnesses. The deputy said Tommy was armed with an AK 47 when the officer attempted to pull him over. Tommy was shot in the drivers seat of his Jeep and never fired a round. The sherrifs dept. stated that Thomas Kollman had a pipe used to smoke crack cocaine. The autopsy report showed there were no drugs found in his system.
The investigation has been turned over to the Florida State attorney's office and is still ongoing as of July 1st 2013.
Jeff Kollman states "Not only did we spend every day together for 30+ years, much of it was spent playing, writing, recording and touring. It's hard enough to lose your only sibling, and then to think about that musical bond that we had just blows my mind".
"Music is such a powerful source of inspiration. I find the writing process to be a very healing gift. It is more important to our society than we realize.
Music flows through the air we breath. The sudden passing of my brother Tommy is just another reminder of how short and precious life is."
'Brother To Brother' is available today on iTunes Worldwide
