I'll also be attending this show!

Plus it's my birthday!

We'll have to have a meetup of some kind before and maybe after the show. Got lots to celebrate that night!

Icon33 It's gettin' tighter all the time!!

I just got my tickets in the mail today...just deciding on how I will get to NY..train or plane. With the price of gas and tolls, I don't save anything by driving...except massive stress and frenzied hair pulling!! Besides, I love getting around by train..I can stay out on the island and be in NYC in 45 minutes....

Oh, and as an inveterate train nut, the Air Train from JFK to the LIRR station in Jamaica RULES!! Gone are the 40 dollar cab rides into NYC from the airport....five bucks whisks you from your terminal to the train station and another ten bucks or so gets you into NYC round trip. And you get to feast your eyes on the scenic Van Wyck Expressway during your short trip!!

GLENN HUGHES Comments On Upcoming New York City Performance...

Quote:
“New York is a city that has an energy like no other,” Hughes said. “I sense anticipation from my fans there, and I always feel exhilarated when I perform there. It’s gonna be tight, and it’s gonna be funky.”

The New York City show will follow a one-off weekend performance in L.A. with Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, who collaborated with Hughes on his latest offering, "Music For The Divine".

Dubbed "The Voice of Rock" for his rich, soulful singing, Hughes has explored many musical paths and worked with some of the greatest musicians in the business. Smith, Hughes’ partner in crime in recent years, acted as a sounding board for Hughes’ demos before the musicians came together with longtime guitarist JJ Marsh to flesh out the tracks for "Music for the Divine." The trio, along with help from Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante and Mark Kilian on keys and string arrangements, recorded "Music for the Divine" live at Smith’s Hollywood Hills home.

Doors are at 6 p.m. Showtime is at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25.00 in advance/$28.00 day of show and are available through Ticketmaster outlets.

Here's the rest of Glenn's quote......

"it's gonna be funky.........

.........and it's also gonna' be dangerous
for any record company executives
who aren't impressed by my performance,
since a large portion of the audience
will consist of the ax murderers division
of the Glenn Hughes Crazy People
Other than that, a good time should
be had by all," said Hughes.

OK, OK, Glenn didn't really say this.
But he should have.......

Sad/UnHappy No Lizards

Heard from Bobby Rondinelli today and the LIZARDS will NOT be opening for Glenn as originally planned. There are circumstances of an injury to a band member (not Bobby) which preclude their playing for a while together.

I guess this gives us more time for Glenn though although I was really excited about the Lizards being part of the show.

All plans are still on for an appearance in New York by a horde of GHCPs...I will be in touch with some individually and others via this board about meeting, etc..

Great to see GH givin' the East Coast some love.

Can't wait till the BB King's show.

If the setlist is anything like the one he opened Glenn Hughes Hall with, it'll be a fine evening (hell, it will be anyway).

Anyone ever been to this venue? I'm seeing info and seating charts that almost resemble cabaret style seating, almost like a wedding or awards ceremony. Is that really conducive to a rock show?

How will we all be expected to stay near these seats without forming a mass of bodies in front of the stage (or am I being too literal here with the "assigned" seating?)

I think their bassist was in a bad car wreck and the band had to take a break whilst he recovered...

Yeah, like we're supposed to eat a late supper,
as GH provides "background dinner music?"

This link shows the seating plan

http://www.ticketmaster.com/seatingchart/688/13723

This shows the inside pics of BBs

http://www.bbkingblues.com/about/index.html

As it opens at 6pm and support act Danny Johnson starts at 8pm i thought i would get there right at the start to get a good table and eat pre show. Anyone going to join me?

Paul,
Here are what my ideas were. We could meet at Ben's at say 4:30/4:45 PM. Have a good bite there and then head to the venue. We would get there about 6:00 for doors opening and could get tables together. Then have a few "warm up" cocktails to get ready for the show. I will call BBs on Wednesday morning to check the seating they will be using and what the sell rate seems to be and then let you know once I am off the phone with them. Afterwards we can all either go to another tavern nearby or get some refreshment and go back to our suite and finish off the night there.

This way you, myself, the Captain and anyone else who wishes to join us could meet at Ben's and all head over together and sit together at the show. Since you will only be in NY for such a short time you need to eat at a local deli or you will never forgive yourself instead of the food at BBs. Plus, if we are in need later on we just order some late night snacks at the venue.

SOOOOO, anyone who wishes to meet beforehand at Ben's, please let me know privately or here and I will post a map so we can all get there easily. Grace knows where she is going, and Ben's does not have a metal detector, so she is safe Bill should know where we are going as well as Kenny and Carolyn and anyone else coming in for the gig.

I will get with you all beforehand and look forward to having a monstrous good time.

Cool Hot pastrami on rye...with mustard!

Hey Frank,

My plan is to get up to the NY area on Saturday..spend some time out in Baldwin with my good friend Eric and my brother Pete. Pete and I will head into NYC on Monday and meet up with you guys. As it stands right now, I will probably catch the first train out of Penn Station on Tuesday morning; why bother going back to the island when I can hang with everyone in the city after the show.

The deli is a great idea; not only can we turn Wolfy on to some classic kosher NY grub but we can even give him the ten cent tour as well!

Too bad about the Lizards..I know Frank was stoked to see them...I am assuming that Danny Johnson is the guitarist who played in Derringer some years back along with Vinny Appice and Kenny Aaronson.

One more week.....bring it on!!

Hi all

It's getting real close now

I guess the 'Ben's' you're referring to Frank is the one on 209 W 38th St ?
Just had a look at the great menu & it looks a must visit!! (Particularly given the great name !).

My only concern is arriving at 6 at BBs & finding the best/all tables already taken by people who have queued before the doors open. For that reason we might eat at BBs & visit Ben's at another time.

Ben's Sig:

Cheers,
Ben !!

Thanks for checking the status of the metal detector locations
in the Times Square area.............

Maybe because a pastrami and rye isn't that unusual for me,
I thought that we were all going to go to BB King's for lunch at 11,
(part of my evil plan "to case the joint") and to see if we GHCPs
could finagle being allowed to stay there between the lunch and
supper hours, if we were EXTREMELY quiet. (Sound check anyone?)

Of course, the majority rules here.
The final arrangement of where to meet, will be OK with me.
But I don't know where "Ben's" is located.

AND I AM NOT HAPPY___ ___about the "no camera" rule.
I'm willing to bring my camera and get arrested, if everyone else
is willing to get in trouble, too. Or maybe we can find out if this rule
of no photographs applies or not, to the "meet and greet" too?

Found an ad for the New York show in the New Yorker magazine online. I bolded the text. I have to say that these writers today are a bit out of touch

http://www.newyorker.com/arts/events/nightlife/2007/06/04/070604goni_GOAT_nightlife

B. B. KING BLUES CLUB & GRILL
237 W. 42nd St. (212-997-4144)—May 31: If there’s a bluegrass group out there that can give Alison Krauss & Union Station a run for their money, it’s Rhonda Vincent & the Rage.A terrific singer and instrumentalist (primarily she plays the mandolin), Vincent fronts a crack unit consisting of the guitarist Josh Williams, the fiddler Hunter Berry, the bassist Mickey Harris, and the banjo player Kenny Ingram. The night promises lightning-fast picking and harmonies as close and gorgeous as they come. June 4: The British hard-rock journeyman Glenn Hughes played bass for Deep Purple back in the early seventies and logged some hours fronting a mid-eighties incarnation of Black Sabbath. His most recent solo album, “Music for the Divine,” from last year, found him branching out into funk with the aid of members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

That's really, really irritating.

"Branching out in funk with the aid...."

Trapeze brought funk to rock and roll. Some people have no business writing.

Okay Grace - it looks like a fund will have to be set up sharpish at this end to get you ... and all other GHCPs ... out of jail ... (seems such a long time ago when you were gonna start the 'Bradford 4' fund? )

I BELIEVE......that that was the "Save the Bradford 6" bail money fund.

And you annoying British people contributed = NOTHING.
I wasn't able to abscond with the funds, OOPS, I mean, nothing was collected.

PS...........Not to take away any praise from "Alison Krauss and Union Station"
and their bluegrass music, but too bad that Glenn won't be playing a mandolin
or banjo at this show; then he could have gotten a great preview recommendation
from this idiot reviewer.

I'll be at Ben's!!! Its on the same street as my hotel so makes it rather easy to find. I'll be wearing my grey Coast to Coast GH shirt.

Im gonna sneak my small camera in Grace. i have a no flash setting that works really well. some of the shots on my Myspace page of DP and Styx were without flash.

If they get funny i'll give them the "do you know who i am and how far ive come".

Checking out now till i arrive at Todds place on thursday.

See you all soon

I don't have a place anymore We signed our closing papers this morning. Now all that remains is for the buyer to sign on the dotted line tomorrow morning and I'm officially homeless!

Ok, so that was a bit dramatic - Angie and I will have a place for you to stay, Wolfy but I'm not so sure about Chip. I may have some extra cardboard boxes laying around, so I'm sure we can work something out

Can't wait to see you guys tomorrow!

Sad/UnHappy Technical difficulties

My trip may have gotten a whole lot shorter....I e-mailed my friend Eric about 2 weeks ago to let him know I was coming..was looking to bunk at his house for two nights since money is a bit tight and the cost of hotels in the NY area is steep. . I call him last night and he tells me that he is going to a re-enactment in PA....there goes my weekend! Fear not..I will come up on Monday morning if necessary and go back Tuesday morning...a whirlwind trip, but so was the DVD shoot back in 2004. I will never forget having to say good night when the shoot was over and dash to LAX to catch the redeye back to Indianapolis so that I could get to school in the morning!

The camera subject came up again..I seem to remember someone many weeks back saying that the venue allowed picture taking but NO FLASH!! Hope that is the case..though it would be great not to watch the show through a view finder! I will bring it anyway for the after show hijinks if nothing else!

OK Captain, but you WILL be there I am sure. Look forward to seeing you man

I have confirmation from certain people about meeting, they are Vinnis, Forever Young (wish I was), Captain, Wolfy, Ben, Grace and Myself. That is twelve including guests and significant others or spouses. That sounds like a good round number for dinner.
The map is on an earlier post and the meet time is 4-4:30. See you all there

PS: Wolfy, I got your meal...owe you one for the Mel Galley chat !!
