It is difficult to know which direction to point you in - every single one of Glenn's solo releases contains at least 2 or 3 genuine classics IMO. The problem when introducing Glenn's music to a newbie is that he is so eclectic - making him impossible to pigeonhole. Even though i first heard Glenn through his work in Purple, I have always dug the the funkier, more soulful side of Glenn, so my choices will not be the same as someone who is a "classic rock" fan. If i don't include live albums, collaborations and guest appeareances then my own personal faves from his solo career are:

"Soul Mover"
"Play me Out"
"Feel"
"The way it is"
"Incense and Peaches"

And if i can count "Hughes/Thrall" as a solo release then that would be high up the list as well.

Enjoy the ride!

Top 5 solo-cds

Hello.

For me, these are the top 5 solo albums...

Soul mover
The way it is
Feel
Songs in the key of rock
Building the machine

I choose these 5, because I think each one of them have a well balanced
mix of songs that give every album a slighly different feeling and athmosphere.
(I dont know if anyone understands what I meant by that... )

Bye,

Jops

Hi all,

My vote goes as follows...

1. Building the machine

2. Soul mover

3. Songs in the key of rock

4. The way it is

5. Feel

No 1-4 = four of his five latest solo releases. Add to this the two very strong HTP releases and we have Glenn at his creative peak...

BR, Per

hi,

if I had to buy them all over again, I would get these five first:

Soul Mover
Songs In The Key Of Rock
Play Me Out
Burning Japan Live (do Live Albums count?)
and the first Voodoo Hill disc

Cheers,
C.L.

Hmm I'm surprised to see no mention of From Now On....I usually stay away from lists like this....GH has so much to offer, all of his albums really are great...almost impossible to make a list. But definitely do not miss From Now On. Out of the 12 new songs on there there's only one I skip. It has some of GH's best ever songs....Hard rock....soul rock, AOR type songs...Great production, guitar playing, singing and drumming also. In a just world it should have been multi platinum. There's also collaborations with Mel Galley and Pat Thrall...although they don't play on the album. In addition, at the end of the album there's a great version of Burn on there as well as You Keep On Moving.

it would be easier to answer the final question on ''who wants to be a millionaire''
my own answer would be sell all you have to buy the whole back catalogue. if you were unable to do this then i would recommened [in no perticular order]

soul mover
soulfully live in the city of angels
songs in the key of rock
the way it is
play me out

Soul Mover
Songs in the Key Of Rock
The Way It Is
Blues
From Now On

However, if collaborations are allowed it would be:

Soul Mover
DEP Sessions
Hughes Thrall
The Work Tapes (Geoff Downes)
Voodoo Hill
