Icon31 Classic Rock - GH London Gig Review

The "all new" Classic Rock mag has this review of Glenn's recent London show.

Glenn Hughes - Mean Fiddler

"It was about time i moved on and stopped being a cabaret act". Thats the philosophy currently being adopted by Glenn Hughes, for so long dubbed the Voice of Rock, yet equally a frustating artist as he continually underacheived.
Having just released his best album in years, Soul Mover, Hughes has finally energised to produce his most balanced and effective live perfomance for a long while.

Opening tonights show with the title song of the new record, Hughes immediately set the tone for a night of blissful funk-rock. And he was in magnificent voice, displaying his versatility without veering towards parody, as he has tended to do in the past. The Soul Mover songs formed the core of the set, but there were the inevitable - and demanded - nods to a glittering history, with Trapeze's Medusa a welcome diversion, and the encore of Sabbath's Seventh Star segueing into DP's Burn was truly climactic.

There were those who missed such masterpieces as Hughes's Stormbringer or the classic Hughes/Thrall Muscle and Blood. But now its a new GH, adapting successfully to the demands of the 21st century. The Voice of Rock is again setting the pace.

There is also loads of other stuff about Soul Sirkus, Dio, JLT etc which i will try and post later

Thanks again, Wolfy, for being:

(It isn't always mentioned by us, but it's always appreciated.)

Thanks Wolfy. I reckon Classic Rock have finally got the message haven't they? Following a great interview with "Deaf" Barton last month we are treated to this great review of the London show! I mean let's face it, they are only saying what we have been saying for a number of years. It's nice to have it rubber stamped by one of the main tomes though. Good news from Cannock
