Arrow Classic Rock November - Tommy, DP, Chad

The new issue of Classic Rock magazine has a good 4 page article on Tommy Bolin. Obviously it has to mention his drug problems but it is really positive about his music "Alexis : the greatest classic rock tune you never heard" (i love his archive version), and covers his brief but brilliant career from beginning to end. there are quite a few quotes from Glenn, Jeff Cook and others. there is even a pic of him onstage with DP in Arizona in 1976 but i cant see Chip or Todd in the crowd.
They list their top 5 TB albums as Teaser "this one has it all", Bang "a woefully overlooked classic", CTTB "aged quite well.. worth a second listen", Spectrum and Archives Vol1.

also in the issue is an interview with Gillan about DP along with a separate review of Rapture of the Deep. Geoff Barton gives it 7/10 and is positive about it.

also an article on the RHCP Under the Bridge. great quote from Chad "It doesnt really have a hook...and not to take away from Anthony, but he's not the greatest singer in the world. Its just cool and soulful".

there is also a free dvd this month. it includes DP's Strange Kind of Woman video from the recent Live in Denmark 72/73 release .
There will be a free cd or dvd every month from now on.

I must have been over at the merchandise stand, looking for a child's sized Deep Purple shirt, when the photo was taken Chip was probably over by the port-a-potty's, sneaking a smoke.

Cheers...Todd

To have been at that show in Arizona, I would have had to drive from St. Louis in my 1971 Volkswagen Super Beetle equipped with an 8-track player.

In regards to a recent comment elsewhere on this site......Wolfy, I would have been wearing a size medium t-shirt back then

A good appetite indeed Wolfy. One which you took care of when I was at your house....fish & chips, lasagna, apple pie, ice cream. Oh, and beer.

If no one scans the articles by the time I get my issue, I'll put them up.

Chip

RE: Thx for posting about the Tommy Bolin news

Thx for posting the info. It really sounds like the artiicle has fallen short of the mark. But it's better than no article at all.

Glad to see Glenn Hughes contribute to the article. Class act all the way.

Thumbs up Deadwing - Album of the Year

... and a contender (remember "Soul Mover" is a 2005 release too and so is "Fused") for "Album of the Year" that is! Fantastic record. Can't wait for their Nov. 23rd show here in Vienna!

Great! Thaks very much! I tried to find it but I didn't manage. I really like Bolin's playing so I couldn't wait to read the article.

Could you also scan the Deep Purple interview? I heard there was one as well?
