Thumbs down DVDs can be even more messed up!

Forget all your complaints about the original DVD release of Soulfully Live - this seems to have been fixed now.

DVDs can be even more messed up, and I have an excellent example for you:

DARE - The Power Of Nature, Live in Munich
MTM Music, 2005

Being a huge fan of everything Philip Lynott and Thin Lizzy , I bought this without hesitating. Plus I haven't seen them Live ever, so it couldn't be that bad. It is.

The concert was recorded and filmed under bad circumstances: heavy rain, more rain and even more rain . Most of the footage, including the close-ups of Darren Wharton (lead singer) couldn't be used for the DVD .

So much for the good plan. Blame it on the weather man.

But: instead of cancelling the project, they decided to film Darren Wharton in the studio, miming to the tapes and put him into the picture, close-up, over the rest of the footage . Looks like a cheap Video-Clip. The whole thing is completely out of sync (seems like the have tried to compile film footage to go with the concert audio, but that didn't work out too well either) - and the best part is, that Darren wears glasses at the gig - yep, no glasses in the mimed footage .

And: lots of snippets of Darren walking around the countryside in Wales .

This is ridiculous!!!!
(And I won't dwelve more into the fact that Dare don't have a bass player - this is a different topic...)

I mean - this is the same label that gave us HTP!!???
How can they release a product like that?

I can only suggest you stay away from this.

Thanks for listening! Don't get me wrong - I'm just angry.

Cheers,
Christian

christian i love thin lizzy too so i understand your frustration you love the music when it first comes out -have to wait years for some kind of video ( often having to resort to bootlegs to get what you want) then when you do get it - something like this occurs (i felt like this with the uriah heep video -i have a don kirshner bootleg clearer than what they used) and on top of all of this im positive that most artists would love for you -and themselves - to have a great video of them all this equals them GETTING PAID which is something every one in this world needs -

.......which reminds me........

When Glenn was appearing at the Hard Rock Hotel
in Orlando, Florida, in March , 2003, the performance
was professionally taped and recorded.

Not being a shy member of the GHCPs, I asked one
of the video/sound technicians when this would be
available for sale. (I couldn't imagine the HRH not
taking advantage of this great opportunity to market
a GH performance.)

I was told, "This isn't for sale. This is for our archive vault."

I was also at that show Grace! Looks like we'll have to pull a heist. "OCEANS 13" I talked to Glenn a little at a VOCR show in VA. a couple months after the HRH show, he knew nothing about it

Sounds good to me, Mark.
First.....go buy a sharp ax, then contact me.

I'm glad that you remember "the technical group" that,
as you looked toward the stage, was at the right hand
side of the audience, next to the large support pillar.
And wasn't there some guy with a small "shoulder"
video camera, who was walking all over the stage
and then going through the audience to get unusual
angles? Maybe Glenn should call them up, and find out
what's going on. It may be THEIR hotel, but it was
GLENN'S performance, huh?

tony g: I'm not on the band-wagon for Glenn to do
a "House of Blues" US tour. Nobody's allowed to take
pictures there? Why? Is the interior of a "House of Blues"
club sacred? Do they have a copyright to the air?

Cripes, if you go to Rome, they let you take photos of the Pope.
(But the Pope better not walk into a "House of Blues" in Rome.)

I say F the House of Blues! Because of their photo policy I will avoid going there as much as possible.

come on you all know why the house of blues wont let you take pics(MONEY) because like the hrh they want to come out years later with a video to try to sell everyone (MONEY) but in this case i doubt if we will ever see it unless glenn wants it and makes a deal with them because the only video they are likely to ever produce will be some top 40 pop garbage (MONEY) that they think will make them the most MONEY grace I REALLY DONT CARE what venue glenn goes to as long as he comes this way hob in chicago is a nice comfortable place to go but once again it all comes down to MONEY and how much a promoter thinks he can make and i have to say this too but any concert i have ever gone to in chicago they wont let anyone take pics anywhere -i have seen people get their heads busted over this - thats the way i have always seen it here it may be different elsewhere but here you get searched before you go in

is the ability to take a photo worth that much over the ability to see your favorite bands perform? to each his own i guess

Thanks Tony, I really enjoy this thread. A little rant here and there can be soooo good.

I have decided to bring it back to the shop tomorrow and tell them that it's simply messed up - picture and sound totally out of synch, blah, blah, blah.

I have never done that, and I have only once returned a faulty DVD, so I'm sure, they'll take it back.

It is that bad, really. Who would have thought that a completist like I am would do this?!

Cheers,
Christian

Sorry folks, I didn't mean to turn this topic around like this.....

I guess that in a perfect world, the people who produce DVDs
or videos would care about doing quality work. And if a live GH
appearance was professionally recorded, and fans were informed
how to legally buy these recordings, we wouldn't resort to
buying terrible quality bootlegs.

For an ax-murderer, I'm a reasonably nice person.
But considering how frequently Glenn appears on tour in the US,
(pause here for laughing) anybody wanna tell me that when a
GH appearance is over, that I can't take a photgraph or ask
someone to take a photo which I intend to enlarge and frame?
Or to post and scan the picture (for free) on the 2 websites?

As "Mr. T" would say, "I pity the poor fool."

Grace

grace i agree with you about wanting a pic -id like to see myself standing next to glenn smiling too and like you i would blow it up and hang it on the wall but the only way to get that close to glenn around here would be if he played in a club or bar - which i have to think he would have done already if it was gonna happen if he comes here with iommi i can already tell you where ever it is i wont be able to get anywhere near him without taking a chance on a busted head

tony g,
Then I would definitely recommend that you make
"the correct fashion statement" of wearing your embroidered,
satin jacket: "The Ax Murderers of Illinois."

Seriously, if you've never met Glenn........unless there's some
horrendous schedule that he has to keep, Glenn will show up
for the "meet and greet" after the show, and treat you as if
you're a friend of his. Which is basically what he considers us
GHCPs to be. No Rock Star attitude..............

It's almost as if there are 2 Glenn Hughes.
On stage - Mr. The Voice of Rock.
Afterwards - a funny, witty storyteller, who should be exhausted
after the performance but doesn't show it, and will patiently sign
a gazillion CDs, and cheerfully pose for pictures, and never acts
bored at hearing for the millionth time: "I've been a fan of yours
since................blah, blah." And he always says "Thank You."

Here's a secret: WHEN (not if) Glenn finds himself back in stadiums
that hold thousands of people at a time, he will still have the time
for us nobodys, because us nobodys are important to him.

Face it; Onstage or off, the man is a class act.

Grace

Dvd

I would like to make a quick comment on this. The show that Glenn did in 1994 at Ciita club in Kawasaky was recorded for private archive too. After almost 10 years someone released it. The video is awesome but the sound has some hiss (nothin that a SoundForge could correct). It is almost like watching the record of the Burning Japan Live.

Lets hope this recording see the light of day !!!!!!
