I saw BCC twice and I saw Joe only on a couple of dvds.

IMHO I think Joe is feeling better at place during his solo tours.
That music suits him better.
The best part of Joe during the BCC shows was when he played the Ballad Of John Henry.
Glenn shines during his solo shows, but also with BCC.
Joe however was mostly remembered by changing guitars all the time.
His guitarwork for me wasn't that remarkable, only during John Henry.

But each his own.

Thanx for the song information David. I'm looking very forward to this album. A pity that this seems to be the last (for now). BCC is such a good band. For me it's the best that GLENN has done since Seventh Star. Good songs and great live shows. For now Afterglow is the completing of the trilogy: But I hope that maybe in the future, the band can have a restart and will record BCC 4

I hope Afterglow is more like the 1st LP. The 2nd took a little time to grow on me - love it now; but from the very 1st listen of the debut LP, it grabbed my by the throat and I couldn't put it down.

I discovered this interview today when I was listening to Re-Machined. Stopped the cd and listened to the interview. I got a lump in my throat, Glenn doesn't look happy at all. Like Yvonne said before: what a heavy mission to advertise an album of a band that's probably history. I wouldn't like to be in his shoes on this mission...

Chin up, Glenn, you are sad, fans are sad, but if it's the way it goes it might as well be the chance for something new and even better! Get Jason, maybe Luis (or Steve Vai) and Derek or Arlan and start a new and heavy Funkrock band with lots of whambam but also soul! (My dream...)

Classic Rock Oct 2012 has Cry Freedom on the Heavy Rotation playlist with this to say about the track:

Quote:
Glenn Hughes may be hinting that all isnt necessarily rosy in the BCC garden, but this funk-tinged hard rocker from the third album Afterglow finds him and Joe Bonamassa trading vocals like there's no tomorrow And is it just us, or does it doff its cap to Deep Purple's Stormbringer era?

...from what I can gather... they'll be a "Limited Edition" CD/DVD in addition to a 'regular' CD/DVD release... plus of course, a Vinyl LP.

The "Limited Edition" includes:

1. The Making Of Afterglow (45 minutes)
2. Afterglow (Studio Video)
3. This Is Your Time (Studio Video)
4. Confessor (Studio Video)
5. Midnight Sun (Studio Video)

Think the 'regular' one will just have the 'Making Of' doc... although I'm sure it will become clearer shortly

I wish the Vinyl will include the DVD as well. Any info on that, David?

For my fellow countrymen: A really nice in-depth interview with Glenn on musicheadquarter.de, conducted in Köln/Cologne last week.

Quote:
I have a wonderful wife, who takes care of me and organizes my life. Not my art but all those little details around it. Everybody should have a partner like that in his life.

How do you think the other BCC members would characterize you?

Eccentric. Friendly, I think. Affectionate, I hope.

It'll just be Vinyl in a gatefold sleeve. CD editions are the only one's that will include a DVD - Limited Edition package has a different DVD (if that wasn't clear before)! Definitive package listings on all this should be confirmed very soon!

Thanks a lot for this interview snippet. In fact it doesn't surprise me. It's not the first time that JB acts very childish in public. When he wasn't nominated for a Grammy this year he went mad on twitter. He was swearing and cursing the responsibles that I thought I don't trust my eyes when I was reading his tweets.

Maybe sometimes a bit less guitar playing and a bit more socializing would help the human JB to become a grown up and responsible person who thinks first before he makes some statements in public. And who realizes that the world doesn't turn around him but he can turn with the world if he wants to. I always liked Joe (and still do) and I also like his albums. But he should really ask himself if getting a number 1 hit (his dream) and becoming more and more famous as a solo artist is worth more than anything else on this planet.
Ambitions are great but they can also be dangerous when they start to controll you instead of the other way round.

Then again: if he's not happy with R&R any more and wants to stay with his Blues nobody should force him to go on with BCC. Well, at least I wouldn't like it. As sad as I am but meanwhile I've made my peace with the possible end of BCC and hope that Glenn will get a real nice new band together. Good musicians and good human beings. Buddies, mates or - as he already mentioned - a new and exciting brotherhood!

May I bet a penny that at least Jason will be with him in future?

I think both CD packages include a DVD - it's just that the 'Limited Edition' has more on it's DVD! I know confusing, huh?! From what I can tell the European label, Mascot, is issuing the 'Limited Edition' DVD... the one from the BCC website, is just the regular edition CD/DVD I think... I could be wrong... you should probably ask the question over there. See earlier post as for the contents...

Fingers crossed the new band is in the funk rock vein and that the vocals will be more close to the TWII style of singing, with a dose of Play Me Out/Feel for good measure

Glenn's hard rock singing as of late sounds a bit forced at times, imho. It doesn't sound natural for him. He's so much better when he lays back a bit, and lets the real Glenn come through (see above albums). I guess I'm longing for the more soulful singing.

I couldn't disagree more with you about his rock singing. He is singing with all the power and range that one could ever hope for. I was at two BCC shows last year and I can tell you he was dead on! No ducking notes, no straining, no taking the easy way out.

I do however understand your appreciation for his other side and from the latest video, I think we are going to get a little bit more of that on Afterglow. He has said as much.

In any case I highly doubt he will be going back to the aforementioned records in style. He is always evolving, mixing and refining many styles along the way. That's the way it is!

Oh, you misunderstood me. No problems with the range, it's just that he shines more when he doesn't push himself to the edge, so to speak. When he takes it down a bit and just does his thing, which is what I love about Play Me Out, Feel and those records. This is where Glenn shines the most imho. Not when being "rock" and singing as agressively and full on as he tends to do on the BCC tracks, HS on Re-Machined etc. That "new" style of singing for him introduced itself when he announced he would be focusing on rock around the start of BCC.

Yet, it's probably his vocal work on H/T, Phenomena, From Now on, Feel etc that fans hold closest to their hearts. His melodic, more sensitive style (which was often rocked up as well).

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks a lot for the short review of each song! Favs straight away: Afterglow, The Circle and Crawl which may change after listening to the full album a few times. Can't wait!

Pre-ordered the ltd. edition (cd+dvd) yesterday at amazon.de for 17,99 EUR (14,37 GBP) which is supposed to be released on October 26, 2012 by Mascot Records (rough trade). The Vinyl is the same price on amazon.de while amazon.co.uk offers it for 25,66 GBP (32,13 EUR) which is nearly twice as much. So in Europe it's well worth looking for the best offer incl. shipping.

@danielb: I totally agree with you wishing for some soulful funkrock again
I love the BCC rock albums and BCC became my favorite rock band straight away but I would be over the moon if the new brotherhood would expand the rock direction to real heavy funkrock and soulful ballads with less screaming but more melodic singing of Glenn (I just love his soulful singing too much when he shows all colors of his voice).

If BCC is to continue, then I'd say yes to that. It would be somewhat in contrast to the BCC stuff. Much like Joe with his solo stuff. Definitely a chance to branch out and perhaps do some more in the way of touring. Then catching up with the BCC boys when it works for all of them.

I'm pretty sure though that we are going to get something we haven't before, as it's been explained to expect the unexpected. So I wouldn't get too much of a mental picture of what it will be. It likely won't be that at all. I'm good with just waiting and soaking it all in, whatever it ends up being.
