NAMM 89

Can anyone tell me the specifics of the NAMM video with GH and Pat Thrall. Of course also whith T.M. Stevens. I have often seen this referred to as 88 and sometimes 89. Is anybody clear on the specific date and year of this improptu gig ? Does anyone have any background on why this show occurred ? Any info would be appreciated......Thanks

Hi there,

I never knew the exact date, but always assumed it was 1988.
(Tourography)

Maybe a search on NAMM and 1988 on Google will bring us more info?

cheers,

- Fedor

Interesting as a few years ago I asked myself the same questions. The line-up was:

Glenn Hughes: Vocals
Pat Thrall: guitar, vocals
T.M. Stevens: Bass, vocals
Todd Cochrane (a.k.a. Bayete): keys
Donny Baldwin: drums

This not only re-united Glenn & Pat for a one off gig, but this performance also marked a 50% reunion of AUTOMATIC MAN as Pat Thrall & Bayete played in that band in the seventies.
Donny Baldwin was a drummer for Jefferson Starship.

They played I got your number / Led Boots (a Jeff Beck instrumental), Hold out your life / Muscle and blood and a funk groove track I don't know the name of.

At one point during a song intro Glenn tells the audience something along the lines of: it's good to be clean & sober again in L.A. So it seems he was trying way back then!!

Not sure if Glenn is referring to the same show in this interview quote from a couple of years ago, as he mentions 1990, but it's very likely one in the same....

quote:
"I'm in great shape these days. I saw this video that someone took of me and Pat Thrall at the NAMM show in 1990 - the year before I went into Betty Ford. I said to myself: 'Who the f**k is that fat geezer?' And it was me! You know the story, but I took a look at myself inside and out, and decided that I had to change. And since then I've been obsessed with looking and feeling good.

I just transferred this video to DVD yesterday so its quite a coincidence this topic.

I bought this video in Japan 3 months ago and the cover says Namm 1990.
Together with the qoute of Glenn in the interview I assume its 1990. There must be some info someplace to get the date of this famous Namm show???

I use my stand-alone Phillips DVD recorder and a good VHS player. Thats all I need. I got so many video's to transfer I stopped doing this by computer making nice menu's and stuff. Thats nice and fun to do when doing your first and second transfer. After a few transfers I switched to DVD recorder. With the DVD recorder I can make chapers and edits too. Much faster and no difference qualitywise

Why do you ask? You need some good software for making DVDs?
