Homecoming review

A great evening indeed!

Imagine being able to walk for 5 minutes from your house to the nearest pub and see Glenn playing in the room above it!

Started off at 5.30 in the pub meeting up with some hardcore fans like Mike Dowson, David Pickles and Karen Bage who had travelled from Grimsby, Halifax and Cambridge to get there.

While in the pub my wife got chatting to a couple who had travelled from Manchester for the event and they asked "is that guy over there wolfysmith". They'd gone to eat when i found out but i guess it was someone from here. You should have come over and said hi!

Then we headed into the Premier Suite for a few drinks and i met up with Jerry Bloom, Mike Moore, Rich (merch guy) and even chatted to Johnny Jevons who Mel and Glenn played with pre Trapeze.

Also, my wife spotted a guy she knew from travelling on the train each day to work and discovered he was Glenn's cousin Mark Hughes. Small world as they say!

The event started off with a 20 minute or so video being shown on the two big screens. This was interview clips with Glenn, Coverdale, Gillan, Paice, Lord, Blackmore, Glover and Colin Hart about the split of MK2 and forming of MK3. Lots of live video footage and pics from the era, several i hadnt seen myself, plus footage of things from 1973 etc. there was even some brief live footage of the 5 piece Trapeze and 3 piece.

Apparently this whole video is the first segment of longer piece that may come out on DVD.

Then Nicky Horne did about a 45 minute Q&A session with both him and the audience asking questions. Most of us hard core long time fans will have heard the answers before but there are always a few new things you learn. Glenn's nickname at school was Bug for example - and he didn't know why!

Glenn told the crowd that a new BCC song would be aired on Planet Rock next week.

Then there was a toilet/bar break for about 20 minutes followed by a charity auction for the giant promo banner that had been up on the side of the building. it was at least 4 foot by 6 foot and made out of a shiny lino type material and signed by Glenn.

It went for 450 with proceeds going to the Teenage Cancer Trust. My wife stopped bidding at 200!

Then Glenn came on and proceeded to amaze once again with his vocals. Anders did a great job on keyboards and the sound was crystal clear.

After the show i had a quick chat in his room with Glenn and my wife and daughter who both hadn't spoken to him since Mel's 60th birthday.

Glenn told me a few exciting things set to be announced very soon but until David posts it....

Terrific review, wolfy, many thanks!

The Stones will play here in September in a park about a 10 minutes walk away from my home. I had no intention paying 500 Euros for a good seat. But there's a large beer garden nearby, overlooking the areal. Of course I won't be able to see the stage, but I will definitely be able to hear them, enjoying a cool drink!

A great Homecoming by Glenn and Anders

Nice to see Anders Olinder working with Glenn again. Glenn was playing acoustic and singing.'Songs that eminated from Cannock'.

Apparently Glenn's Grandmother liked the lyrics to 'Seafull'. Trapeze classics 'Seafull','Coast To Coast' & 'Will Our Love End' were featured.

Anders played some nifty bass lines at times to fill out the sound. Anders block chords worked well to emulate RB's guitar solo section on 'Mistreated' which worked well in an unplugged set up.Glorious chord inversions by Anders on the tail section where Glenn improvises vocally.

I thought someone in the John Ogden role could have added some percussion during these performances, but that's a minor quibble.

Nicky Horne(so down to earth no aires or graces) happily mingled with the audience during the interval prior to Glenn's performance.

The evening commenced proper with a rough cut of a forthcoming DVD/Blue Ray MK3 Story- 'Lay Down Stay Down' featuring interviews with legendary Roadie 'Magnet'. New to me was the audio of Glenn singing and playing guitar presumbly with Paice & Lord on the Soul cover 'Some Kinda Wonderful'.More information please somebody?

Nice to meet like minded fans and some of Glenn's inner circle!

Glenn left us by hitting an incredible vocal high note on 'You Keep On Movin'.

I can see Glenn doing a few more of these events in the future. OUT

Glenn is pictured here with Scott Murray, owner of Premier Suite Lounge & Sports Bar.

Does anybody have more info on that gold record? It was awarded to Glenn for CTTB. Was it exhibited at the homecoming event?

It was in Glenn's room after the show just sitting on the side. I'm not sure if Glenn gave it to Scott as a gift but he's known the Murray family for years so could well be the case.

i took a pic myself while i was in the room
