Icon49 HiWatt Reunion

GLENN was recently reunited with an old friend - one of his HiWatt amps - originally used on the Deep Purple records, "Burn", "Stormbringer", "Come Taste The Band", and many, many live shows including the one featured on the "Made In Europe" record!

He also used them during the reunion Trapeze shows in 1976, as well as rehearsals for the original release of "Hughes/Thrall"!

They have a tremendous amount of history behind them as you see - so now they are safe'n'sound back in GLENN's hands

You can hear more about it's story directly from GLENN by taking a listen to the latest edition of the CTC Podcast - No.4

I love the glenn sound on these classic album, and this big hiwatt has a lot to do with this fantastic sound.

I think glenn try to get the same kind of sound with the mark bass and his custom manne bass.

But this vintage Hiwatt head has a unique sound!

Icon49 All set to go.......

This vintage amp will come in handy,
for the DP MK 3 reunion concert, featuring Glenn Hughes.

...and it's already got the correct information painted on it, too...

Hi everyone!
It would be great to witness a DP M3 reunion concert!
What do you think - where would it take place? America, UK?
I wonder because I live in Europe

I just re-read this post by you, tony g.
The crooks stole Glenn's famous white suit?
Huh?
Are you sure?

Would that mean that this was specifically "a DP robbery?"
As opposed to being (for want of a better phrase) an ordinary robbery?

I really hope that they catch these people......
........just a few minutes with the Ax Murderers of America ought to do it.

Well, if they actually do it, I would imagine it wouldn't be for just one show, but more of worldwide tour - now, whether they all get through that, is another question

No, not those crooks Grace

Glenn lent it to Mel Galley for the Trapeze reunon shows in '76, but it then went missing just after that and Mel doesn't know where it went, so around that timeframe it took a walk somewhere

Icon49 'Ya need a scorecard.......

Thanks ( ) for the "crook clarification", David.
Unbelievable.

Well, I guess that if I've already promised to sew something medieval
for a Mk 3 reunion (if that's one of Mr. Renaissance's demands)
I could probably sew up a white satin jumpsuit, too.

PS.....Glenn recently said that his favorite color is emerald green.
Shouldn't that be:

HUES OF THE GLEN, GREEN?

Icon34 The Mystery amps...

I was watching the Cal Jam DVD last night and you can see the two Hi Watt behind Glenn as he plays. The nameplate is blacked out with what appears to be electrical tape but hearing the story about them recently made me key in on the amp faces. And of course you have the bird's eye view of the two heads on the cover of Made In Europe.

It is so cool to see that Glenn was able to get the amplifier back..now if someone only knew the whereabouts of a certain Fender Precision bass guitar....

That reminds me....It was often believed that the Gibson SG that George Harrison used in the Beatles for a time (it is seen in the video for "Paperback Writer" I think..) was long lost. George gave the guitar to Badfinger guitarist Pete Ham. After his death, Ham's widow supposedly sold the guitar at a garage sale not knowing its history. And that was where the story seemed to end until a few years ago. Pete Ham's brother John got the guitar and it disappeared under a bed for something like 30 years. He came across it and sold it at auction for some mind blowing amount of money.

Other long lost guitars of note;

Ollie Halsall's 1964 Gibson SG
Jimmy Page's black Gibson Les Paul Custom
Steve Howe's custom built Gibson ES-175, Rickenbacker 12 string and 60's Fender Stratocaster
Paul McCartney's first Hofner Beatle bass; the 1961 model

Maybe they'll show up on "Antiques Roadshow?"
We live in hope...............

So Glenn obviously knows who is in possession of the white suit.

Move to 3:20 and you'll know.
