Icon33 VH-1 Classic Metal Evolution

In this clip from VH1 Classic's new 11-episode documentary series Metal Evolution, premiering on National Metal Day, the Kinks' Dave Davies explains how he got the particular guitar sound on his song "You Really Got Me," which ended up becoming one of the early inspirations for metal. "The first dirty guitar I ever heard was 'You Really Got Me,'" says Deep Purple and Black Sabbath bassist Glenn Hughes. "It was so demonic! It made moms and dads go 'Turn it off, it's evil!'"

The series kicks off this Friday, November 11th, at 10 p.m. ET/PT, after which it will move to its regular time slot on Saturdays at 10 p.m.

Ray Davies (Dave Davies' brother) said during an Austin City Limits concert awhile back, that a record company rejected the song All day and all of the night when it was first sent. They didn't care for the lead guitar, that it sounded like a barking dog. Ray noted - "that's exactly what we wanted"

GH on Sky Arts

Hi All,

GH apparently made a brief cameo apperance in the first part of 'Metal Evolution' series on Sky Arts 1 on monday night.

I think these programmes are normally repeated.

A video of the Kinks' song All day and all of the night performed by Ray Davies. That gritty guitar sound (mild by todays' standards) is what changed rock n' roll.

If I remember correctly, Trapeze were not mentioned in this episode even though the description in my program guide mentioned them.
