Smile Back In The New York Groove!!

Well..it's official! After 3 years in the sticks, I am finally busting out and moving back to New York! You always read about how people can't wait to get out of New York.....tell me about it. I hate it so much that I am moving back for the third time in 16 years.

I got a mechanic's job with Jet Blue at JFK and I will head up there this coming Sunday. I haven't worked out my living arrangements yet but have a few possibilities that I need to check out. I am just psyched to be back in the big city....I never got used to all the green rolling hills and chicken farms!

I get to spend 10 days in Orlando for indoctrination on October 10th before I start my assignment. You know, I keep reading about all the live music that a lot of you are getting to experience...I mean, John Harjo had it SO tough....David Garfield and JSS on the SAME night! Being back in New York...I can have it so tough too!

It's a new adventure but the city is in my blood....looking forward to real bagels, Slipped Disc Records and LIVE MUSIC!!!! Bring it on!!

Hey Bill

Great news for you - congratulations on your new job

As for living arrangements,I guess at worst case scenario you could always empty out one of those bigger suitcases that get left behind at JFK to use as a shelter on a temporary basis!(not that I'm bitter re my case having been left behind there recently )

Best of luck

Cheers,
Ben !!

Great news Bill.

Now you will have a home town Glenn Hughes show to go to when he plays there again.

Great News Bill !!! I know how badly you wanted to return to the "real world". Sounds like a real good promotion
for you too !!!

When you and David and Shirean get together in Orlando, well, that could be a music discussion worthy of
National TV

Enjoy New York and let me know where you settle; I do get to the City at least two or three times a year.

I know what you're talkin, Bill.....welcome back!

You might find this article interesting.
It talks about Jersey pizza, but it also mentions Yankee Doodles!

Grace, that is a great article. I make it a point to go to Jersey, specifically Lenny's Pizza in Lavallette at least once a year when I am either visiting NYC or in Philly with the ballclub. There is nothing that compares to NY/NJ Pizza; and I won't even get into the bagels, knishes and Italian Pastry.

Bill will be eating 24/7 for awhile I would expect

Hey Capt' --

While you're back groovin' in the hood...make sure you visit Greenpoint ,Brooklyn for the best authentic Polish food..You can fill up with good food rather cheaply, compared to a NYC bagel which will probably cost you an arm & a leg!! Just found out from Kenny's brother in Brooklyn, that a 2 bedroom apt is now running $2200/month.. Talk about paying an arm and a leg. FUGGEDDABBOUT it! Hope you research on a place to live before you make the plunge. You are a true adventurer at heart... best of luck to you. Kenny & I usually go back at least once a year to visit our family and friends. We MUST hook up some day. New York will always be my home God Bless It

Stay well-- Carolyn

2 true stories.......

(Thanks, Frank.)

I have very dear friends who are originally from India.
So a few years ago, we were sitting at my kitchen table,
talking about the similarities and differences of our childhood.
And Prakash started talking about how, when he was a little kid,
he would come home from school to be greeted by his Mom with
a freshly-made glass of lemonade.

A few years after he and Vinita moved into the neighborhood,
Mom and Dad (from the Poona area) flew into NJ for a visit.
And Mom discovered "Country Time Lemonade ~ Powder Mix."

Yep, you guessed it.
Mom announced how much she had always hated making lemonade,
and thought that the can of lemonade mix was the greatest invention
of all time. And yes, several cans were packed in their luggage
for the return flight back to India.
THE END........of home-made lemonade from Mom.

PS......I remember the time that I was in England, for my daughter's girlfriend's
wedding, and they took us to this monster-sized supermarket near Coventry.
While walking down the "Foreign Food" aisle, I remember saying:
Hey, I could actually live here.......they have HELLMAN'S MAYONNAISE!
(And I wasn't joking, either.)

Hellman's is the no 1 seller here Grace. a premium brand.

They always have funny tv adverts around Xmas with the phrase "dont forget the Hellmans". Cold Turkey sandwiches arent the same without it!

WHAT?
Hellman's is number one in England?
I would have bet that it would have been:

Yes, Ben.........
this new Ramada Hotel in Cannock / Birmingham looks pretty good to me.
But after carefully reading all the information from their web site,
NOWHERE
did I read that they have a PA System to pipe music into the rooms.

However, I know that with

~ "Smith's Hotel of Cannock" ~

I will be able to enjoy the "ambiance" of "All Glenn Hughes music - All the time."

Plus, as I understand it, the owner and manager,
Miss Lucy Smith, is one pretty smart cookie.
No contest

Grace, currently at Smith's Hotel the playlist is Journey Live Greatest Hits(again!), Cheap Trick's Special One(excellent) and Rockford(brilliant), Rory Gallagher Live at the BBC(pure class) and Deep Purple Live in London(epic!).

Ben,

Its less than 20 minutes from JB's - and The Robin2 (where Glenn should play instead of JB's)

Wink Damnit..we're out of mayo!!

Well..today is the day. I am just doing some final cleaning up here and then it's out on the road! I am staying with an old friend in Baldwin and then I go to Orlando for 10 days.

This is all a bit scary; it reminds me of moving to San Francisco back in 1989 when I got hired by United. I drove out there not knowing a soul or where I was going to live..I can laugh about it now but it was tense the first few days.

And Carolyn....if I had a family I wouldn't even consider going back....since I am a solo act I can rough it a bit! I have a few leads to chase down already.

I will probably be "Lost In The Zone" for a few weeks until I get a place and get all my gear moved. Damnit Jim, I shoulda bought a laptop!

Well...here we go!! I will try to keep all of you posted!

See you soon!

Well, Shirean, our son and I, did indeed manage to hook-up with Bill AKA captmidnite1962 and this evening we headed over to "The Kitchen" at the Hard Rock here in Orlando, where we had a very enjoyable meal.

When not talking about Star Wars (our son's favourite topic at the moment), we reminisced about the good times we had at the very same hotel just a few years ago with Glenn and others, his music - music, music and more music!

After eating outside in glorious weather; 85 degrees, no rain, no bugs and with an awesome sunset, we then headed across to Emack & Bolio's ice cream shop where Shirean and Bill indulged in Glenn's very own Deep Purple Cow flavoured ice cream and as I went over to grab a latte, I came across a new addition to the musical memorabilia hanging on the wall, a copy of Trapeze's "Hot Wire" album, so we just had to take a pic even if it was just on Shirean's mobile!

Hope to get together will Bill again soon, as his new job might have him out this way again shortly. Meantime, he's off to New York this week, his new "hometown", he certainly can't wait to get started on his next adventure.

Hey...haven't I been here before??

Hey folks,

Lunch break and I can grab some computer time...yes, it was a glorious evening in Orlando and I had a wonderful visit with David, Shirean and Jason Skywalker!

Going back to the Hard Rock brought back a flood of many fun memories; we ate outside just below the balcony where David, Todd, myself, Chip and JJ were hunting for UFO's about 3 years ago! The food is fabulous ( I didn't try the infamous cardboard pizza!) and it was a relief to get out of my hotel for the evening! I finish training here on Thursday and return to NY to start my assignment there.

I noticed the Hot Wire album cover and had to get a few pics as well; my camera is here but my computer is in VA so I can't share...just yet!

Thanks to the Harrison family for a great time...hope to do it again soon!

You can just make it out behind our big heads wolfy But Bill's pix will be a lot clearer than Shirean's no-flash mobile version as shown above.

David, did they move the Hot Wire cover to a more prominent location?
It used to be on the back side of a column, toward the back of the shop.

Here's a photo I took of it.

Hey Chip...no, it's still in the same spot...I must admit I hadn't noticed it before understand why now We also snagged a pic with "those shoes", but Shirean's didn't come out very good, perhaps Bill will post his when he gets reunited with his laptop.

Good thing that you two didn't post a photo of that support pillar
AFTER
the Trapeze album cover was "removed for refurbishment."

(I always find it helpful, when necessary, to also carry a crowbar.)

PS.......Good luck with the classes, Bill

Back in the 'hood!

I started working at JFK about 3 weeks ago and after staying with some friends out in Plainview, I am now in Kew Gardens sharing an apartment with about 8 people...but fear not, we aren't all there at the same time!

I love being back in the city again...a 20 minute train ride to NYC and everything I need is an easy walk from where I am living. This is just for a few months as I have a place lined up back in my hometown in a few months.

I don't have my computer here so the Internet Cafe near the train station will work for now!

Here's hoping all of you are doing great..I will check in as often as I can!
