The new February issue of Classic Rock has a few things I thought you would like to have reported
In March BMG records are to release 2 full shows from DP’s last tour with Ritchie as a 4cd set “Live in Europe 93”
JLT will sing on Street of Dreams with Candice on Blackmore’s new lp Village Lanterne
In an interview with Coverdale to promote his new live dvd (out Feb 6th here). It will have lots of bonus features, documentary, and 10 track cd. In answer to a question about DP MKIII playing together again “I have no idea what you’re going on about. It’s a shame but the old management sticking any old **** out has compromised Purple’s reputation. Whereas if you look at Zeppelin, Pagey has kept a tight grip on the bands integrity”. Asked what he thought about Blackmore’s Night “it broke my heart to read the comments about their British tour. Someone said it was like a school play, with bales of straw on stage and all that. But my feeling is if Ritchie is happy, then God speed. Look at the legacy he’s left. I’d love to hear him playing some extraordinary, electrifying licks, but what does he have to prove now. If anything came up related to Purple in the future, Ritchie would have to be involved to secure my involvement”.
Incidently, the advert for the next issue out in Feb is “Ritchie Blackmore exclusive. How did it come to this? From DP to Rainbow to BN. The amazing story of rock’s lost guitar hero.” Plus 49 other lost bands, albums & songs.
Phenomena’s Psychofantasy is “reviewed” and gets 7 out of 10. No mention of Glenn being on it.
California Jam dvd gets 8/10 in its review.
The free cd has 15 tracks by "the hot new bands for 2006".
And now for you Todd! You probably know this but….
Colosseum II have a new release/reissue of Strange New Flesh. It’s the original cd plus 3 outtakes, a whole cd of BBC Sessions for John Peel, plus a previously unissued Radio One In Concert from 1976. They give it 7/10.
Rory Gallagher “The Complete Rockpalast Collection” gets 9/10. On 3 dvd’s all five concerts (76,77,79,82,90) and associated jams get an official release. “a succulent spread of guitar wizardry”.

Thank for the monthly update wolfy.....but do they really think the Classic Rock readership is interested in "the hot new bands for 2006"? Isn't that what Metal Hammer is for? I wonder sometimes about this rag, it's like they're trying to cater to a wider audience than they're title implies. Odd After the recent changes there, they had a couple of good issues, but now it feels like they're going down that slippery slope again. Guess, time will tell.
Thanks for the Colosseum II notice, Wolfy, but I picked that up at my local Tower a month or so ago. Great release, if anyone doesn't have it. Gary Moore and the band simply tear it up! Colosseum II gives Mahavishnu Orchestra a run for their money any day of the week, if you ask me.
As for the Rory DVD, I can't wait to get my hands on that! Just when I was about to plunk down some dough for what would probably have been a dodgy DVD collection of performances on eBay...a godsend!
And while on the subject, does anyone know if any of the shows on the new DVD are duplicates from the original Rockpalast DVD of Rory's from a couple years ago?
And as far as David's comments go, I have a quibble - I would love to see Classic Rock go three months without a cover feature on Led Zeppelin, Queen or Pink Floyd. Enough is enough, for crying out loud. There were other legacy bands from the same era, ya know!
deep purple's live 4cd box set:Ritchie's Last concert?
here is a track listing for the above 27th February:
cd1 Highway Star, Black Night, Talk About Love, Twist In The tale, Perfect Strangers, Beethoven, John Lord solo, Knocking at your backdoor, Anyone's daughter, Child in Time
cd2 Anya, Battle Rages On,Lazy, Drum Solo, Space Trucking,Woman From Tokyo,Paint it black, hush, Smoke on the water.
cd3 Highway star, black night, talk about love, twist in the tale, perfect strangers, the mule, beethovens ninth, knocking at your backdoor, anyone's daughter, child in time.
cd4 anya, battle rages on,lazy,in the hall of the mountain king, space trucking, woman from tokyo, paint it black, speed king, hush, smoke on the water. It's quite a lot to get through, what do you all think?
i would presume the DVDs contain shows previously issued separately. The 3 dvd's have over 9 hours of music.
according to the press advert this is a one-time only release to coincide with the 10th anniversary of his death.
www.play.com has it for sale £39.99 and lists the tracks for the 1st dvd - but not the other two.
Todd, i'll never forget hearing Bullfrog Blues all those years ago when i bought Live in Europe. "did you ever wake up with them bullfrogs on your mind" as the first line of a song !
Todd, the Rory Gallagher Rockpalast 3 dvd set is all of the previous dvd release and more. It duplicates the single disc issue but adds two more discs (I think it has five shows in all plus the Frankie Miller and Rory tracks from the all-star jam in '79. The only downside for us yanks is the fact that it's PAL format. Haven't heard about a NTSC copy being available......

Talking of Rockpalast, I am ashamed to say that I was given a bootleg DVD of Joe Bonamassa live there. If you like Rory's legacy check out Joe. Pain and Sorrow from his album So It's Like That is pretty amazing.
I'm a fan of Joe's too. Met him after a show a few years ago - I think he opened for Peter Frampton. Hell of a nice kid. I was very impressed with the performance. I have two of his CD's and a few boot DVD videos. I thought he would be on top of the world by now- he's a great young talent, but I guess us American's just don't know how to appreciate good guitar playing these days. (sad but true...)
