Sad/UnHappy Tommy Vance RIP

Its sad to report the death of Tommy Vance.
This guy was as much a radio broadcasting legend as John Peel.

His Friday Night Rock Show on BBC Radio 1 for 15 years was the best show they ever had.
During my A-Level years I used to meet my mates every Friday and listen to the show. They broadcast loads of live gigs from all sorts of bands.

The guests, the music, his knowledge and love of ROCK is something the BBC have never replaced nor will they ever.

I think DP chose his show to announce they had reformed.

There are numerous articles about his passing on the net.
Hopefully the Beeb will give him a fitting and proper tribute.

Tommy... thanks for the music

Check http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertain...io/4325543.stm for a very brief rundown.

Hi Wolfysmith
I endorse your comments.
As much as the Beeb made of John's death they have so far, to my ears anyway, made very little comment about Tommy's- just a mention on the news on Radio2 early this morning .Perhaps a full blown tribute is in the offing ? (Mind you, coming from the institution that could only rustle up one copy of The Beatles "I am the Walrus" this morning, which jumped, & therefore couldn't get played (!) I doubt it)
Cheers
Ben

Well, blow me down with a feather! I've just this minute mentioned Tommy Vance on Glenn's board!

Well, there's another special person gone to rock heaven. My Friday nights WERE Tommy Vance and the rock show.

Thanks for letting us know that Wolfy - I'd never have known.

God bless you Mr Vance.

Thumbs up Friday Rock Show

Here's a little nostalgia - got a ton of tapes in the loft of these shows, will have to dig them out some time - plenty of vintage bands on them.

Thanks for the clip, Paul.
Red Nose Day, eh ? One of Tommy's 'lesser gigs' methinks !

Thanks Wolfy, I had no idea he's passed away. Only a few weeks ago I emailed him at Virgin Rock Radio about Glenn's album and tour so it's an added shock. In his show I found an antedote to Top of the Pops. Thank you for playing our music Tommy!

Virgin Radio have a tribute to Tommy tonight at 10pm.
Ozzy & Robert Plant are on it among others
