Thru the lens

All these photos would make a nice addition to the Photo Gallery and support the next million or so clicks. However, there are far too many to upload them. So instead I'll post some links.

The APA Picturedesk has a good set of photos of Glenn's career, be it Kings of Chaos, interviews, BCC, with Andy Fraser at Wembley and Purple days. Just skip the other Hughes listed there. With thanks to Barry Goldstein, here we get some superb eyecatcher from Long Beach February 1976. Maybe the last pix of the US leg of the final tour.

Happy viewing! :)

Two of our heroes, both gone

Onboard the Starship and it's raining gold. Don't they all look happy and content? Great shot of MKIII.

Some excellent portraits taken by Ash Newell.

This is what Glenn says about the photographer

I had heard the news in L.A. about a photographer whose work did the talking. His name? Ash Newell, and quite few of my famous friends had already had photo shoots with him.

Ash came over to my house for a morning shoot and when I met him at the door I immediately knew that he meant business but more importantly, his character, wit and sensitivity made it one of the easiest sessions that I’ve ever done. It’s never easy doing a photo session at my home as my five dogs are always up to something, but Ash was a champion with my fur kids. Within 2 minutes of setting up, Ash took a portrait of me that captured my soul. I always look forward to working with Ash again…..ANYTIME….ANYPLACE!!

Besides Didi Zill, it was Fin Costello who gave us the most wonderful pix of the DP MK III/IV era.

I thought he is American and never knew how he looked until I found this little clip:
You Tube
The first photo was taken during rehearsals at Shepperton Studios, England, in November 1973, the second during the US tour in November 1974

MK III in a studio in Copenhagen shortly before their debut at KB Hallen December 1973. Photos by Jan Persson.

Even an agency like Getty Images isn't without fault. Glenn wasn't mentioned in the captions. Instead they claim there had been one Ian Gillan in the studio...

I love this b/w photo, taken by Eddie Sung from Morrison Hotel Gallery.
No date was given, my guess is early 2017.

Glenn and Tommy at a Dallas record store.

The article from Sounds March 1976 about the final US tour is quite interesting, too.

With this consuming love for R`n`B in mind I suggested that Hughes might feel somewhat frustrated, playing with Purple.

“I don`t like heavy rock music, believe it or not,” he says, matter-of-factly. “But `Smoke On The Water`, `Machine Head` and all that is Deep Purple, I can`t change it. I don`t feel frustrated onstage when I`m playing, but I do sometimes when I`m offstage and I begin to think about it."
