Shape 68 NAMM Mini-Review

Due to earlier delays at the venue, Glenn and the band ended up on stage following Tower Of Power's performance at about 9:30pm, about an hour later than first scheduled.

They didn't waste anytime upon their arrival and dug straight into the Shape 68 set:

ALL ABOUT THE GIRL
STANDBY
YOU GOTTA BELIEVE IN LOVE
GRACE

Glenn then led the band into his signature tune:

COAST TO COAST

followed by the "Deep Pimple" classics:

YOU KEEP ON MOVING
MISTREATED
GETTIN' TIGHTER
STORMBRINGER
FUNK ON THE WATER (SOTW)

So 10 songs in total...with the Shape 68 numbers shining through...sounding fuller and like the band had fine tuned them since their debut performance last October, it was a great evening.

Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) joined Robin on drums (with risers for both) for the final Purple numbers, Gettin' Tighter, Stormbringer & Funk! Jeff was also joined onstage with an unannounced (or I missed it!!) rhythm guitarist, perhaps someone else can fill us in?!?!

It was certainly a mixed crowd...with not too many fellow fanatics in the audience.

Definitely worth the trip down...you can find some pictures from here

Thanks for the quick report on this Shirean.
Cool that Smith dropped by. Sounds like it was fun!

Yes - thanks for setlist and pictures!
Setlist makes me wonder isn't there anything else Glenn (or the other guys in band) has done during his career than those DP tunes they could play? I know that this IS his pop-vehicle but anyway - perhaps songs from that unreleased WB album???? or perhaps funk/soul covers?
What do you guys think?

Keep in mind the show was played here in the US...to a very mixed crowd who wouldn't ordinarily have heard of Glenn other than his time with Purple.

On the other hand playing some funked up, rocky cover tunes would have been just as good for me :)

The rhythm guitarist at last Friday night's NAMM show was none other than Fish-he who plays with Christine Aguilera!

Oh.

Amazing - nothing of significance for days, then WHAM! Been quite ill and missed so much. Not sure where to look for what first, but thanks everyone for keeping each other informed of Glenn's (almost all) movements.

Hopefully speak to some of you on 22nd CHAT.

Didn't word that quite right - not the twenty-second CHAT - the one that's on the 22nd (tomorrow).
